Do Not Change the Tennessee Sunshine Law
The undersigned Tennessee citizens oppose any changes to the sunshine law, including all statewide nonbinding resolutions asking the Tennessee General Assembly to revise the sunshine law, that would allow members of local legislative bodies to meet out of the public eye as long as a quorum is not present. Tennessee residents demand that local governments remain transparent. Governments are not entities operating in a vacuum separate from the citizenry, but rather are a part of and elected by the citizenry to represent them in making important decisions that have significant impacts on the everyday life of the citizenry. The United States of America is based upon a democratic government. Any government that operates in secrecy is no longer a democracy. The public's business should be conducted in public. That's a principle our public servants must affirm.
