The Blu-Ray version of Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" presents the movie in multiple aspect ratios in an attempt to approximate the effect of watching the film in an IMAX theater. There is no option to watch the film in a consistent 2.4:1 format as it was widely presented theatrically, and as it is presented on the DVD version. For CIH (constant image height) home theater users, the very consumers most likely to pay extra for Blu-Ray releases, this forces undue compromise in presenting the film. Either the picture will "spill" over the border of their screen, or the image will arbitrarily cut-off without the benefit of the informed decisions that were made in cropping the theatrical and DVD versions of the film. In signing this petition, I am asking that a future release of "The Dark Knight" or any other film that makes use of different aspect ratios in different theatrical releases, offers home theater consumers the choice to view the movie in one consistent format. The Blu-Ray standard offers multiple ways in which this could be accomplished without requiring two completely different versions of the film, including using seamless branching.
