In today’s society, there has recently been a steep rise in vehicular accidents caused by divergence of the driver's attention. Largely because of these accessible networks, there are over many deaths. In the past year. In 2011 distracted driving was responsible for 20% of all traffic accidents, killing nearly 6,000 people. This number could be greatly reduced if some simple steps were taken. The solution to this problem is to install a program on all phones with GPS that would turn off the phone if the GPS recorded speeds of over 20 miles an hour. This would make it impossible for a driver to use their phone while they are driving, therefore preventing many accidents. More than 46 percent of Americans own smartphones, so this would be helpful for some of the cases of distracted driving. The Federal Communications Commission is the department that deals with cell phones, and they have paired with the private sector to come up with new technology in the past, so they would be able to do that again with ease to make this work. Just think of the thousands of people that would have a family if this were put into place. Roads would be safer, public health would increase, and lives would be saved. Please sign this petition and share with your friends and family. No one deserves to die because someone else has text message or phone call that they have in their car.
