He could however have asked for a birth certificate. 2, Unless he would ask for a would ask for a birth certificate of ALL women entering the women's loos, potentially trans or not (after all, who can tell for certain - nobody), it's discrimination under the sex discrimination act. 3, As those who would hold a gender recognition certificate hold the rights, responsibilities and protections of that sex, to refuse them entry to the facilities of that sex for not being able to produce that certificate is discrimination under the Sex discrimination act, regardless of points one or two above, and as such, the actions taken against these women simply trying to answer the call of nature (ie, refusal of entry) was completely illegal. The stewards should be reprimanded, as should the police officer involved - if not sacked. Certainly that police officer should no longer be allowed to function in an LGBT liason capacity, and the force he is part of should get sum proper training in application of the Gender Recognition Act 2004. Somebody needs to have strong words with the organisers to ensure it can happen never again.Flag

Writing law on the hoof to get an easy result. When I asked him, he did not have a calling card on him, he said.Flag

Name: Christina Alley on Jul 6, 2008Comments: It was an extremely shocking and hurtful experience for Roz and all of use who rallied to her support. I was one of the 'bunch of trannies' (as the steward referred to us) who came to Roz's side in support. I was pushed into a barrier which collapsed, threatened with arrest and insulted. In the end, Both Roz and I were apologised to and the misguided, immoral and illegal policy was reversed. There is much to say about the incident, which was wrong on so many level. Needless to say, the wheels are in motion to educate the parties involved and to petition the relevant authorities and organisations implicated to prevent such abuses of human and civil rights from occurring again. Quite right too!Flag

Those officials involved in this incident showed a disturbing lack of sensitivity and judgement. They need to be educated, and we need to be assured by the Pride organisers that this will NEVER happen again. At the very minimum, a personal apology form the organisers and officals concerned is in order. Pride - it's time for you to show us the same support we've regularly given non-trans GLB people. It is unforgivable that at an event, where is everyone is happily celebrating pride in oneself, the local authorities oppress that celebration of pride, for "certain" people. How would the individuals, who are among the "authorities" feel, if such a thing happened to them. "You are allowed to take care of a basic bodily function in THAT room, NOT these, because you are wearing that uniform." "You cannot drink from that fountain, you have to use THAT one over there, because you are wearing that uniform." It is as if "certain" Human Beings are "officially" designated as being less than Human, or seen as being afflicted with a highly contagious disease. Trans Human Beings do not have any desire to hurt anyone (physically or emotionally); we are among the most empathic, compassionate people in the world. One day, I hope before I die, I will be able to experience true acceptance for all Human Beings, as equals. It seems that there is a strong need for education/training of these "authorities" to see Human Beings as Human Beings, without any preconceived notions about any individual Human Being. Every Human Being is unique/special, and we each expect/demand to be treated as such. "All you need is Love; Love is all you need." As a full time preop TransGender Female, I have partially completed the process, electrolysis, Hormone Therapy, and I have no problem using either restroom, the danger(s) associated with my use of a men's room are significant since the amount of proceedures that I have had leave me appearing VERY female. My experience has been that what you are doing will serve to upset the men present when I do use the potty. I could really care less who is upset, except that this places my life in danger. Are you really THAT lacking in common sense to realize that gender is not a black and white line, but a VERY gray one If we have gone to significant steps to at least appear in our chosen gender then your current policy of seeing legal documents will only serve to endanger people and create hostility. It is a sad day for Pride London that such a crass thing could ever have occurred and the organisers must not be permitted to pass the blame for this to everyone else. Ros is owed a grovelling apology from the top and there must be a committment that all Pride stewards will in future be properly trained. Unfortunately just being LGB appears to be no guarantee of education in this area.Flag
