Petition Summary and Background: This petition is to register our objection to the Highland Council charging £20 to issue a disabled parking certificate (Blue Badge). We feel that this equates to a stealth tax on illness and disability, and that it discriminates against those who cannot afford the £20 charge. We are also concerned about a distinct lack of free disabled parking spaces within Inverness City Centre and are concerned about these spaces being taken over by taxi ranks.

Action Petitioned For: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our elected members of Highland Council to act now to abolish the £20 charge for Blue Badges for all disabled people and to establish more free disabled parking bays within Inverness City Centre, and to liase with Northern Constabulary’s Community Enforcement Officers to penalise those who park in these spaces without displaying a Blue Badge, thereby preventing Blue Badge holders from accessible parking.

We hit a significant milestone today and the momentum shows that our community will not tolerate these unfair charges. Call your local councillor this morning to demand they address the lack of accessible parking in the city center. Post the link on Facebook to keep the pressure on the Highland Council.

Totally agree. Parking in inverness is bad enough without the council making money off those of us who cant walk far.

Twenty quid is a lot for some folks on low income. Stop this tax now.

Try finding a spot in town at the weekend. Its a nightmare. Taking away spots for taxis is just making life harder for us.

CHARGING FOR A BLUE BADGE IS DISGRACEFUL. TAXING DISABILITY IS A NEW LOW EVEN FOR THE COUNCIL.

Ridiculous to charge people for being disabled. Highland council need to get a grip and stop squeezing people who are already struggling enough as it is.
