Name: Diane on Dec 19, 2006Comments: Although I was raised in San Antonio, I am now forced to come back as a visitor. The Davenport is one stop I always make. I have always had a good time there, with good friends and always a friendly smile to serve me while there. It is the friendly "Cheers" type place, where everybody knows your name.Flag

The peolpe that moved in to this area new what they were getting into, now your taking money away from someones family. If we are going to promote downtown you can't chose who can stay and who has to go! Bobby Veltman Director of Restaurant CitrusFlag

Name: Joseph Rodriguez on Dec 19, 2006Comments: I'm unfamiliar with the" irreconcilable differences" that are going on at the moment despite considering myself a regular at the bar, but I do believe that it would be a huge mistake to close the bar. I'm a concierge across the street at the Hotel Valencia and part of my job is doing what I can to make our guests feel as comfortable as possible during their stay and fullfill some of their requests. Some of the requests include wantig to visit a pub or bar with a " hometown " vibe and that is part of the Davenports appeal. It is also interesting to note the renaissance that Houston St.has undertaken in the last 5 years or so and I believe the Davenport has alot to do with that. Don' t you think there had to be a guinea pig, if you will to test the waters and see whether Houston St. was viable for opening a new business If the Davenport didn't succeed there probably would not have been the influx of growth we see today. Give the Davenport its just due and keep it open and thriving.Flag

Name: Mike Tafolla on Dec 20, 2006Comments: The Dav is a popular "after work" place for a drink with friends. I have made many friends from hanging out at the Dav including people that go there and people that work there. If the Dav closes I will more than likely not spend time downtown anymore after work.Flag

Name: Julio Montenegro on Dec 22, 2006Comments: When shutting down an establishment such as Davenport on Houston St., its affect's the direct link to bring Downtown and Houston St. back to life. Davenport has made a safe-mark for other trendy bars and lounges to open on Houston. Not only does Davenport cater to those who visit San Antonio but to those that help keep Downtown running and full of energy. Julio MontenegroFlag

Part of the decision-making process for us included consideration of Davenport's success and steadfastness. It was as if knowing we had a big brother who's been around the block once or twice looking out for us. I don't think the Davenport has run its course - rather with the right support it can retain its unchanging quality while adapting to the changing face of a downtown that it helped revitalize.Flag

Name: Hortencia on Dec 29, 2006Comments: The Davenport did help to jump-start the successful revitalization of Houston St and for such circumstances as irreconcilable differences to cause its closure is unfair. It is unfair not only to those whose livelihood is associated with the Davenport but it is unfair to us, the paying customers. You are taking away a place that many of us who do not prefer the glitz and glam of other nearby establishments, could feel comfortable and enjoy an evening de-stressing after a long day or week of work. But most importantly you are taking away a place where many of us customers made friends of Davenport patrons and staff. Stop the injustice! Keep the D open!Flag
