Dick Allen was perhaps baseball's most misunderstood player in the history of the game. He also was one of the games greatest sluggers. He was the 1964 National League Rookie Of The Year while a member of the Philadelphia Phillies and was the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1972 while playing for the Chicago White Sox.He is considered by many as the Greatest Player NOT IN The Hall of Fame.Allen has been Hall of Fame eligible since 1982. To get into the hall of Fame a player needs 75% of the vote. Up until 2014 the highest percentage received by Mr. Allen was just 18.9 %. Many say this is because of his relationship and refusal to speak to the media who did most of the voting. In 1997 Allen was moved to the Veteran's Committee Ballot. The reason, of course and in Allen's case is very true, that if a player didn't get along with the media or members of the BBWAA .. Baseball Writers Association of America they shall be chosen by another Committee consisting mostly of Dick Allen's peers. In 2014, which Allen was nominated and then placed on the 10 player Golden Era Ballot,he received 11votes. Unfortunately Dick Allen needed 12 votes or 75% of the 16 voters. We feel Dick Allen should have been voted in then or the committee should have went back and revisited the vote and put Dick Allen and Tony Oliva in the Hall of Fame. Oliva also received 11 votes. This past ballot the Hall of Fame elected no one. In fact since 2001 only one living player, Bill Mazeroski has been elected. We want to make sure that this doesn't happen in 2017 when Dick Allen is eligible. That is why, we need your signatures to show your support for a player who from 1964 to 1973, which is 10 playing seasons, Dick Allen's Adjusted On Base Plus Slugging Percentage otherwise known as OPS+ was 165. That ranked him First in that time frame. Ahead of 17 Hall of Fame players, including the likes of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey. Ernie Banks, Johnny Bench and Willie Stargell. Willie Mays has stated on a video, which he has done for no other player, that Dick Allen was one of the greatest players he ever saw and is a definite Hall of Famer. Do you think anyone knows more about baseball than Willie Mays?... I didn't think so. So when a player of Willie Mays's stature makes a statement like that it must be taken very seriously by everyone who is involved with the Hall of Fame voting. So we ask all of you to do the RIGHT THING and sign this petition.
