Comments: Please find a place to relocate the loss of parking stall. I only wish the city and state would put as much thought and care into the diamond head area as they do for the average golf course, yes surfers and beach goers vote too. So try to help us.

Comments: The DH Master Plan must take into consideration the needs of ALL users of the area. Every public improvement project funded by public money should benefit all citizens. It should not benefit a group of individuals at the expense of another group. Taking away the makai parallel-parking stalls will severely restrict access to the beach. A beach park improvement project should increase public access and use, not the other way around. The DH beachgoers are only asking that the already scarce number of parking stalls be maintained, and not eliminated to make room for a bike lane. Many of the beachgoers such as the surfers and the windsurfers carry gear weighing up to 40 lbs. Without the makai parking stalls, it will be extremely difficult for these individuals to gain access to the beach with their gear. Surfers and windsurfers are an integral part of DH. Each day, tourists from all over the world gather at the lookouts to marvel at the sight of wave riders. Without the surfers and windsurfers, DH will definitely lose some of its appeal. Please modify the existing improvement plans to make room for sufficient public parking, so that wave riders and other beach goers can continue to enjoy the DH waters while contributing to the overall appeal of this legendary spot.

Comments: Crucial to allow parking near paths down to the beach. A huge community of folks use this beach and surf zone.

Comments: the current plan will inconvenience many residents and tourists, not to mention hurt numerous businesses who frequent this route and also require parking spots to conduct business.

Comments: I have watched several windsurfing events from the shoreline here and the need for sufficient parking must be considered. Perhaps the local residents would prefer not to have any visitors at all, but that defeats the real purpose of having public beaches, doesn't it

Comments: Money to improve bike access to Diamond Cliffs area should be focused on the danger spots, specifically the very narrow roadway Ewa of the lighthouse.

Comments: Aloha, I enjoy surfing, biking and whale watching from time to time at Diamond Head. I have a mixed feeling about the project. As a biker, it would be nice to have a wide bikepath and enjoy the beautiful bike ride safely. But as a surfer, it would be devastating to lose the parking along the road, especially when we think about carrying a board up the Diamond Head and hiking up and down to the beach. If the parking stalls were removed, I would imagine it would still create a heavy traffic inside the nice bike lane with surfers walking with boards or it would create a lot of problems in the neighborhood with on-street parked cars. If the project were meant to make surfers give up going there, that would be very shameful. I see many vacation surfers from other countries looking foreward to coming to Hawaii to surf there. If the parking on the street were to get removed, this project may make such an adverse impact on Hawaii's economy. Did you also plan an alternative/relocated parking area to make up for the street parking near by Please do so. Thank you. Etsuyo

Comments: This proposed bike path makes no sense, and should be abandoned. Why build a bike between the lighthouse and triangle park when the most hazardous stretch for cyclist is from Kapiolani Park to the lighthouse.

Comments: Am a biker and a surfer. As a biker, have never had a problem with the traffic or parking spaces when going up or down Diamond Head. Have not heard of any accidents caused by lack of a bike lane. The parking spaces are no problem as there is more than enough room to ride. As a surfer, the free parking spaces are a fantastic way to access the views and the surf sites at Diamond Head. Haven't seen any abuse of the parking spaces such as double parking or obstruction of the roadway. Please save the parking spaces. Surfers and bikers are in harmony with each other and the present situation. Thanks, Gene Kawaguchi

Comments: Diamond Head is a State Park. We do not have tourists and shops on the road, so we do not need big sidewalks. It is one of the few surf spots on the south shore which are still easily accessible, please do not remove the parking stalls. Mahalo

Comments: Please, do not take away or reduce access to this beautiful beachpart. Where else can local residents go surf/windsurf on the South Shore outside of Waikiki !! (Please don't force us to take a TAXI because there is no parking available !)

Comments: I am a bicyclist and surfer. I want to see the parking spaces for cars *retained.* A bicycle lane will not help bicyclists and the absence of cars will only encourage speeding in the area. Thanks for your consideration of my opinion as a Honolulu resident and lover of Diamond Head!
