Name: Michelle Burke on Oct 25, 2007Comments: I have been working as a teacher at Brighton Le Sands Public school for the past six years. During this time, I have worked as the music and choir teacher for three years. Deva came to our school to present a musica viva performance as the culmination of the unit of work on Indonesian music by Deva's group called Makukuhan. Deva and his group put on a fantastic performance and were undoubtedly the best Musica Viva group we have had at our school. Their passion for music and ability to educate and relate to the children was outstanding and the children talked about it for weeks. It also allowed us to teach the children some valuable lessons about our closest neighbour, Indonesia. I have also been to see Deva play on various occasions at music events around Sydney. He is amazingly talented and passionate about the music scene in Sydney. Kind Regards, Michelle BurkeFlag

Name: Lauren Parker on Oct 25, 2007Comments: I whole heartedly support Deva Permana's application for residency due to his superior contribution to the community and also his dedication to achieving greater awareness and understanding in Australian-Indonesian relations. Deva is an asset to this country and I strongly believe that Deva has much, much more to give to the Australian community. It will be very unfortunate indeed to see that Australia's Immigration Department is unable to acknowledge such an invaluable individual.Flag

Name: Jason Morrisby on Oct 25, 2007Comments: 25/10/2007 It has been brought to my attention that Deva Permana faces deportation due to the cancellation of his current visa by the Migration Review Tribunal. Deva has been an integral part of the Sydney arts community for the previous few years and his contribution has been a delight by those who have witnessed Deva's talents. His meteoric rise through Australia's drumming fraternity has seen him gain utmost respect from his peers. Deva's talents are held in high regard from all corners of the music industry. Deva has displayed a gift to learn, enjoy and conform to the Australian lifestyle. His positivity and gregaroius attitude has seen Deva culivate a large and respectable group of friends. His hard work and determination have not gone unnoticed. I certainly hope that common sense prevails and Deva's current visa situation can be reviewed. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any further information. Kindest Regards, Jason Morrisby General Manager C/- JBM Group. Office: (02) 9516 0310 Mob: 0400 844156 P.O.Box 274 Enmore 2042Flag

Name: Lindl Lawton on Oct 25, 2007Comments: I am Curator of Immigration at the Australian National Maritime Museum and have worked closed with Deva and his group in the past. They performed ( to great acclaim) at our South East Asian Food Festival in 2005 and I was impressed with Deva's dedication, professionalism and passion for sharing the music and culture of his homeland. I am shocked and disappointed to hear that there has been a problem with his application to stay in Australia and I offer my whole-hearted support to any efforts to keep him here.Flag

Name: Nicholas Mcbride on Oct 25, 2007Comments: This is a very sad situation and i hope Deva will not be forced to leave Australia as he's been a great contributor to the Australian music scene since his arrival 11 years ago. Apart from being an award winning drummer known throughout Sydney, he's a great friend. Deva has always strived to foster cross cultural music projects such as his band Garis - which i also played in. I believe cross cultural work is of particular importance in these times. I was fortunate enough to have deva in my band for several years and he's on 2 of my cds (playing some amazing Kendang). Please feel free to contact me regarding any queries about Deva Permana. I strongly support Deva Permana's appeal to remain in Australia. +86 13917583841 www.myspace.com/nicholasmcbride p.s. if all else fails, he can join me here in Shanghai where his talents would be a most welcome asset to China's growing music scene.Flag

I have known Deva ever since he first arrived in Australia and would like to add that I think the above list of his achievements and good character is an understatement! He is without doubt an exceptional drummer whose talents cannot be replaced and it would be a devasting loss to the Australian music community to lose him. I can vouch beyond reproach his incredible dedication and heartfelt commitment to share his knowledge. Anna Tranter (Drummer, Stage Manager, Radio Announcer, Public Service Employee 17yrs, JP)Flag

Name: Khung Qarr on Oct 25, 2007Comments: I was very shock to hear the news. I first worked with Deva back in 97' for a HSC performance. Since then we've kept in contact via Charity Concerts and Jammin session. As a musician who only play's for leisure, Deva's jam sessions has provided the stage for musicians to get together and share our musical skills. I do wish the Migration Review Tribunal will reconsider their decision as it will be at a great loss to lose such a talented drummer.Flag

Name: Andrew Mortensen on Oct 25, 2007Comments: Deva is one of those people in the world that this sad city needs, a totally professional musician, totally committed to his art and sharing it with others. He introduced me to Indonesian music, for which i am very grateful. He is a very warm, kind & generous person who brings so much to this country. To have this unfortunate situation thrust upon him - all at the negligence of someone else, who he trusted, is very sad. Keep Deva in Australia!Flag

Name: Michael Johny Kimbal on Oct 25, 2007Comments: As a senior musician that mastered both western and eastern (indonesian) musicology, Deva is an invaluable asset to many of us who are greatly in need of his skills and knowledge, both in works and social occasions. He has tirelessly organised many musical events to promote indonesian and australian cultures in and around australia as if he is the unofficial ambassador of indonesian traditional music in australia, of which many of us will agree. His contributions in filling the gap between indonesian and australians' musical cultures has never been recognised but surely felt.Flag

Name: Carolyn Shine on Oct 25, 2007Comments: Deva is a shining star in Sydney's music firmament. More than just an instrumentalist, more than an educator, he is an innovator and leader, with a strong and unique voice. I believe that he has, over the past decade, had a significant impact on the music scene here. Not the kind of person we would want to lose, and, for what it's worth, an extraordinarily nice guy.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 25, 2007Comments: Australia and it's music industry, including music education would not only benefit, we would be LUCKY to have him remain in Australia. In the time I have fortunately known him, he has guided, inspired and grounded me. In addition to his wondrous talent, he possesses Godlike attributes. he is righteous, untainted, unfaulted. He is spiritually culminated, because he is morally, saintfully - (humanitarian to say the least) - reached the highest point. He is a sinless, pure, impeccable being, I couldn't fathom deneying him residency.Flag

I sincerely hope that somebody out there realises the immense mistake that will be made in deporting Deva. Regards, KhaliFlag
