You have harmed more children then ever before, you are terminating their parents and leaving them no where to turn. Our children have suffered enough why don't you guy's who make $200,000 and up lay yourselves off and I'm sure we will have enough money to hire the hard working teachers and tradesmen you have FIRED!!!! You don't know what you are doing to families and you really don't care but don't worry one day you will be in our shoes. From a family who has been affected by your so called budget saving cuts.Flag

Name: MARY TURNER on Jun 24, 2005State: MICountry: USComments: The goals behind these cuts are anything but helping the children. Our former governor was not in favor of unions and started the demise of Detroit Public Schools using students test scores as the reason for government take over. Yes, money and other improprieties were and are rampant. Downsizing staff, firing teacher helps to promote the Charter Schools that are allowed to cover up any deficiencies they may have. Detroit Public Schools need changes but not at the hands of Politicians,Preachers, and Principles with conflict of interest. Engler to Adamaney to Burnley over and out. I know for a fact there are Charter Schools with non certified personal teaching children. I know for a fact there are people petitioning for seats on the DPS Board and they hold a vested interest in their church's Charter School. My point. STOP pretending to care about the students. Have some people to people dialogue. Sop taking teachers for granted. Teachers, teach. The DetroitPublicSchool system is too top HEAVEY. The administrator and their bosses need to be evaluated by teachers and parents. Where is the check and balance. The same is true for the CharterSchools. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. CLICK ON THE SONG, FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY BY THE O'JAYS. THE LYRICS ARE SO TRUE.Flag

Name: ANGELA HUGHES on Aug 11, 2005State: MICountry: USComments: MY CHILD DOES ATTEND A DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOL AND I FEEL THAT ALL OF THE OLDER TEACHER COULD BE LET GO AND THE NEW MORE EDUCATED ONES SHOULD BE HIRED IN A LOWER RATE THIS WAY THE BUDGET WOULD BE UNDER CONTROL AND OUR CHILDREN WOULD BE BETTER EDUCATED AND READY TO DEAL WITH TODAY'S WORLD. THE OLDER TEACHERS AT MY SON'S SCHOOL SPEND MORE TIME IN THE STREET SHOPPING THAN IN THE CLASSROOM. ALSO ALL TEACHERS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PUNCH IN AND OUT FOR THEIR WORK DAY. THIS IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT PAID FOR THE DAYS THAT THEY ARE NOT THERE IN PERSON. THANK YOU !Flag

Name: Meghan Richards on Aug 30, 2006State: MICountry: USComments: This is absolutely absurd!!! How can you want to cut the pay of the most critical, instrumental people in most of these childrens lifes. Teachers have to deal with these children's problems on a daily basis. They spend more time with them than most of their parents. Teachers should be compensated as mentors, arts and crafts teachers, babysitters, stand in parents and siblings. How could you want to impair the livelihood of the very people that give so much livelihood to so many children in this cityFlag
