Comments: I believe that they should cut the pay of the staff because they themselves are not doing their jobs to provide students like me with the proper education. Even though I am not in the DPS System I was a product of miseducation because by the time I got to highschool I did not know everything there was to know when I reached a higher level of education. Therefore, I think they should.

Comments: I am not happy with the Detroit Board of Education switching a public meeting from 3-19-03 to 3-13-03. I had requested to be on the 3-19-03 Agenda. My topic continues to be on why the schools kick special education students out of school due to behavior issues. My son, 12 years old, less than 60 pounds, born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome have behaviorial issues which are consistent to the characteristics of FAS. He can be taught but training and comprehension for him is difficult. I am upset that this board would have the audocity to secretly convene a meeting and not inform those, at least not me, of a meeting.

Comments: This petition is semi-literate. Whichever educator "writes" this poorly should be first on the list for staff reductions.

Comments: I am in disagreement with this whole proposal because the DPS system is by far the worst school system that I have seen thus far. instead if them "streamlining", what needs to be done if more accountability of school spending. If they are going to cut down staffing then then they need to begin at the top.

Comments: I ATTENDED DPS FOR MY 12 YEARS OF SCHOOL. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT ONE OF MY FAVORITE CLASSES AS WELL AS THE TEACHER WAS BEING TERMINATED. I AM DEEPLY DISTURBED BY THIS. I WAS ALSO DISTURBED BY THE FACT THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD IS TERMINATING FRENCH, ARTS, AND HOME EC CLASSES. THE BOARD IS ALWAYS CLAIMING THEY NEED MORE TEACHERS, BUT NOW THEY ARE FIRING THEM. THAT DOES'NT MAKE ANY SENSE. THESE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND PATIENCE.

Comments: I feel that the board of ed have let the children down by admitting pre-thru-5th grade mix with elementary students, I have seen so much sexual harassment that it is hard to believe that the board is trying to help the children. We are allowing Dr.burnley and others who are not in touch with the schools make discission on the students and what he is doing is setting everyone young childern up for a life in prison. Just look at ll the incidents that are flooding into you board police department if you do not believe me.

Comments: April 23, 2003 Whomever Cares, Hello dear reader. In this letter I will be as informal as I can, but I will be brief considering other more pressing issues occurring in the world today. But I do ask that you read this letter in it’s entirety. My name is Artie D’Angelo Courtney III. I am now a husband and father of three. One month ago I turned 24 years old. This is my second birthday to pass and I do not have custody of my children. My children were taken from my wife and I, by the state of Michigan, for reasons that still to this day I do not understand. If you can just imagine for a minute, a man who comes from a family of 12 children, a crime ridden city and also poverty. But this man met a woman, a woman sent to him from GOD above, a woman whom gave this man hope and a since of pride. Then they had a son. And no matter what this man had experienced before, he set out to show this son all the complete opposites of what he had seen. So immediately this man and his woman packed up their things, moved from this diseased city and went to college to further insure their families success. This was this mans life’s mission. And requirements of this mission were to embrace his family in every way. Meaning there was no time for anything else but family. This man spent many a hour teaching his son, loving his wife and providing for his home in which his woman and he thought was the basis for a successful family. The stresses of this new life soon showed it’s signs. The two eventually split. This man went back to this city . In the weeks he was away many tragic events occurred, including, the supposed conception of his second son by another woman. At this point this man saw he was once again allowing this city to consume him. He called his woman and told her of his occurrences, and the two negotiated a truce. But now this man had another child to save from destruction. His woman knowing the severity of this task also accepted it as her own. After two years of planning (this child was being introduced into this mans home as a son and brother, he was there more than with his biological mom) his birth mother signed him over to his father. With no toys, no food and no clothing. Just signed over. For this mans family this was a great achievement. All that was left was for the courts to sign the papers. Then tragedy struck. Approximately six weeks into this new living arrangement the child had a seizure. He was rushed to emergency care and treated. One day later this child’s biological mother reached the hospital with all kinds of stories of how the fathers then girlfriend had made prior statements that when she received chance she was going to injure this child. This coming from a mother, whom if even minutely investigated, would have been found to be a liar and also unfit to raise a child even by her own definition. (She had signed him over and established her unwillingness to care for this child in contract.) But immediately this man and his woman were accused of abuse. This being, contrary to the doctor’s prior beliefs. The girlfriend was arrested on trumped up charges so that the couple’s biological child could be stripped from the house, while, the father was being distracted by state workers at the hospital. This father beginning to see what was occurring rushed home to witness these events. The father being uncharged was told “it is too late, the order is in, you can not get your son from the state car.” This was later found to be unconstitutional. At this point their lives were flipped upside down. They were tried and denied even the littlest bit of respect or services, then stripped of their parental rights by a judge aspiring to be a Supreme Court Judge, a child lawyer and firm partner set to become a judge, a state worker with little to no experience in this field and an assistant prosecutor one case away from being promoted to the Michigan’s Drug Czar Division. Based solely on the res ipsa loquitor theory. Which basically means if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it is a duck. No evidence was presented to support this theory, just a lot of smoke and mirrors being preformed in such a prestigious establishment as the Michigan Probate Court. It was this family against the system. In the midst of the case the two married. College students, both drug free, both tax paying citizens, both majoring in child development fields. If you can image this, you can imagine me. And yes these are true events of my life. So someone whom cares can see how these turn of events can, not only, destroy the hopes and dreams of an aspiring family, but also throw off this families whole agenda to the point where they lost their home, all their memories and also the right to raise any other children, including, the daughter the boar only two days after the judgment was signed. Someone whom cares could never let these injustices go unwarranted. Someone whom cares would reach into the depths of their resources to see if this is at all factual and try to right this wrong. If are not someone whom care I am sure that you know someone who does. PLEASE PASS, DON’T TRASH. If you are someone whom cares you can contact me at acourt58@icqmail.com. P.S. We were a loving family. My wife nor I could never hurt a child. All we ask is to be reunited. Thank you for caring, Mr. Artie Courtney III

Comments: Yes, I have a 5th grade nephew who attends Courville Elementary School in Detroit, MI on Neveda St. I am having a very hard time locating a tutor for this child through DPS or any other service, would you please assist me in helping this young person find assistance with his studies, because he is our future and we would not want to fail him. I have searched everywhere, even tried to contact the school, received no answer when calling the school at 313-369-2512. Please send me some help with finding a tutoring aid for this child who is failing the 5th grade. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from someone regarding this very urgent matter.

Comments: PLEASE, if anyone knows that children need structure, need CONSISTENCY, NEED discipline, you must know this applies to you also. Parents are also being jumbled around in this mess! OUR job is to keep our kids in school, make is so that they want to go, stay IN school, study, do WELL and GRADUATE, the ultimate goal for high school parents. Please don't make our children think the 'higher ups' do NOT know what they are doing EVERY year by shifting around some of our BEST TEACHERS IN THE COUNTRY right here in the Detroit Public School system. How can we as parents stay dedicated to our children's educational future if teachers don't know from month to month that their own jobs aren't secure What effects one, effects the next and so on. MY children love going to school, I am lucky, but there are SO MANY other families where kids feel it's not worth the time. Sure, it starts at home, but WE cannot do this alone. WE NEED OUR TEACHERS to feel secure so as they teach, they know they will be there to finish the lessons they planned for our students. That's alot of extra hours of effort teachers DO NOT get paid for yet it's part of their job. What a waste to see all that education go to waste!
