Comments: Cutting funding for this charity is a false economy for Derby. Derbyshire Voice supports mental health service receivers to have a representative and meaningful say about the development of mental health services. If this voice is silenced the quality of services will undoubtedly suffer and a group of disempowered and "done to" people will once again disengage. The people who are involved report great improvements in their skills, confidence, social connections and quality of life - this will all be lost and the cost of an inpatient stay and appropriate aftercare will in reality cost the council a considerable amount more than £16K! This charity is run, led and managed by people who have experienced mental ill health and is regarded as a model of excellence from others in the country - Derby should take pride in organisations such as this not disregard them in such a dismissive way.Flag -

Name: Josephine Stuart on Dec 5, 2012Comments: Derbyshire Voice give people who are mentaly ill hope and the confidence to function as members of society again. I have no doubt that Derby City Council have had more than their moneies worth from the service that is provided there and the cost to the services is less because of that as peiple become independent.Flag

Name: Bonnie Clouthier on Dec 5, 2012Comments: I was devistated to hear this news. More funds should be given to this organisation to contnue the work they do....they honestly could teach the so called professionals a thing or two about how to provide a quality service that treats people as individuals and has respect and compassion at its heart. I work in mental health in Derby and this decision will have very negative effects on those involved but also the quality of the mainstream services.Flag

Their role is invaluable and should be championed not cut, as its provision is for the benefit of service users, professionals and the wider community. £16,500 is so little to pay for such a lot.Flag

Derbyshire Voice gave him a reason to get out of bed, get washed and dressed and leave the house. Years later he now has a job and a relationship and has recovered so much. Its because they believe in people and dont judge and thats something money just can not buy.Flag

Name: Harry Ryan on Dec 5, 2012Comments: these people trained the Derby City Council social workers that section people and have been trying really hard to improve things for those in the most vulnerable position in society DETAINED UNDER THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT where they are abused and punished and treated like shit. Anyone who lets this service suffer needs to be asessed under the act as its the craziest thing i have ever heard proposed. There should be reward for these people not this kind of treatmentFlag

Name: Amanda Ford on Dec 5, 2012Comments: The decision by Derby City Council, to cut all the funding to Deryshire Voice, is an affront to both the charity and the people it supports. It demonstrates the low value accorded to mental health services by Derby City Council. In the current climate of increasing austerity, there will be an inevitable rise in the number of people needing to access the services of Derbyshire Voice; now is not the time to reduce this service. I would urge Derby City Council, to think again about the severity of these cuts.Flag
