The Club named "Veranda," (operating as 130 7th Avenue South Restaurant Group, LLC) which formally opened at 130 7th Avenue South in November 2009 as a Restaurant/Lounge, is requesting an alteration to their liquor license at the Community Board 2 meeting on February 9th. ***NEW SLA LICENSE RENEWAL REQUEST ON JULY 14TH, 2011.

Since its opening, Veranda has blasted loud music with a pulsating bass beat on a nightly basis from 10 PM often until much later than their requisite 4 AM closing time. Veranda occupies half a city block, has DJs, nightly dancing, burly bouncers with earphones out front and all the other accoutrements of an operational Night Club. It regularly hosts parties/dances organized by outside promoters, where the crowd is described as “eager to dance.” Veranda is clearly a night club, albeit lacking a Cabaret license. This was confirmed by Freedom of Information Act Law Tracking Request #11541, dated 2.2.11, which clearly states there is no existing Cabaret license. Moreover, when a Cabaret license application was last filed for this space in 9.07, it was denied.

That Veranda has continued to operate as a Night Club is a blatant (and willful) violation of the law, and shows utter disregard for our residential neighborhood. Repeated visits by the NYPD Cabaret Squad have not been effective in getting the music volume turned down or dispersing the boisterous, obviously inebriated patrons who linger in front of the Club. This establishment is operating illegally and its clientele continues to disrupt our quality of life in every way on a nightly basis. Thus, we appeal to CB2 for help!

Keep in mind that just a year and a half ago this part of the Village, though bustling, was relatively quiet even before midnight, and most assuredly after. The present "party" atmosphere is unsuited to our West Village residential neighborhood, and, worse, it has made the area increasingly unsafe.

We are appealing to the SLA Committee not only to deny this latest application, but also to recommend that the State Liquor Authority take appropriate action with Veranda for operating as a night club with live music and dancing with no Cabaret License.

Please take a moment to sign this petition, add a comment if you wish; and come to the Community Board 2 Meeting. Numbers count! Be sure to sign a speaker card if you wish to speak.
