Comments: Congratulations to Community Care for offering leadership to the sector by highlighting the need for continued debate on the challenging issue of how best to meet the needs of people with dementia and their families. It is crucial that reform and future funding of care and support services takes full account of the range of support that may be required to implement the National Dementia Strategy successfully. Comments: Essential that a debate for those with dementia and their carers along with funding issues for research and practical care is high on the agenda. Dementia will be so prolific in the future needs to be included in strategic plans NOW. Also human rights and the frightening link to possible euthanasia needs to be clarified to ensure the protection of the vulnerable.

Comments: Lots more needs to be done - I see service users with dementia everyday and services are appalling - doctors who will not refer and who actually don't seem really bothered - dementia services who have no emergency appointments for carers who are struggling.

Comments: how can we as a nation support 'other countries' in the shape of Sport Rellief, Comic Relief etc, when those with Dmentia and, importantly, their informal carers in terms of family members have been totally disregarded. They brought this country to where it is and this is how we repay them. This debate is vital, dementia cannot and should not be ignored any longer.

Comments: Carers are currently caught in a very difficult situation, not only physically and emotionally very taxing, but also often complex and difficult to navigate in terms of entitlement to help and funding. The need help, simplicity and clarity. It is possibly the biggest time bomb facing our health sysytem, and will cripple funding for other areas of health and social care if the nettle is not grasped now.

Comments: More funding needs to be allocated in order to improve the services available for people with dementia and their carers. There needs to be more choice, better training and recognition. My frustration is how long are we going to be talking about what needs to be done.

Comments: People with dementia and their families have been denied access to support services for far too long. Government seems to consider dementia to be a matter for social care alone, but it is a life-destroying disease that should be given high priority for health care services as well. More research, please; more funding for support services; easier access to those services. More caring about dementia. Who knows? Tomorrow it could be you.
