| 51 | Barry Hickethier | I grew up in Winona and as a child it was always a treat when the Delta Queen came through town. I remember a couple occasions when the boat's travels coincided with visits from out-of-town family members. It was a treat for them to see the historic boat. I saw President Carter speak from the boat. The Delta Queen is not just a part of our collective history, but a part of my personal history. |

| 53 | Anonymous | I believe that the Delta Queen deserves a Presedential Pardon.
She is safe and would still require coast guard inspection.
This Pardon would just be for the Delta Queens violation of the saftey of life at sea act. Like it says in the petition.
I think it has a proven safety record and the law was ment for ocean going vessels anyway, thats why Great Lakes shipping is exempt, as river vessels should be.
Yes, the Delta Queen deserves a full Presidential Pardon!!!!! |

| 58 | ron hunt | It makes me sad to think that politics could sink the queen. I would rather it hit a rock than be sunk by a politician who is only concerned about re-election Ron Hunt |
| 59 | Sharon Feehan | We need more boats like the Delta Queen, not less. She is a treasure to be enjoyed by all. |
| 60 | Fred Fletcher | .....the concept of equivalent safety can more than compensate for SOLAS requirements - - - - - - - keeping in mind that DELTA QUEEN does NOT ply the open ocean. Fact is, she's almost always less than a mile from shore.
Don't let this icon fall victim to the foibles of politics.

| 61 | Jim Smith Sr. | As a recent passenger of this magnificant vessel, I can't see anything that would be considered unsafe ! They have provided all the necessary safety equipment to make the Delta Queen, very safe ! I hope congress will see their way clear to grant it a permenent exemption from SOLAS !! |
| 62 | Robert Duncan | Too much history is being destroyed and or tied up in bureaucratic red tape. Surely common sense can prevail - even in America..!! |
| 63 | Ron Trussell | The Delta Queen's heritage must be preserved, not as a stuck in the mud museum, but as a historic working ship for everyone to enjoy both as passenger and vistors. |
| 64 | Enid Ringdahl | I have traveled extensively on river boats and ocean going vessels, and I can assure you that I am safer on the Delta Queen than any other vessel I have traveled on. On my multiple trips aboard the Delta Queen (and her sister boats) I have observed the extensive watering systems, and the ease of exiting the boat is remarkable. I am scheduled to leave on another Delta Queen trip in 12 days, and I want nothing more than the assurance that the Delta Queen will be allowed to continue along the Mississippi (and to Minnesota) for many, many years. This IS the river's history...American history...my history.
No one can judge this boat unless they have traveled with her. She is remarkable and loved by thousands. |
| 65 | John Ringdahl | On one of my last trips on the Delta Queen, I met a person who was making their 100th trip aboard the Queen. This person does not need Congress to tell them that the boat is not safe! The Mississippi riverboat that caught on fire with the loss of life that Oberstar refers to, sunk in about 1865 and was seriously, seriously overloaded...you can not compare the two (unless you have no idea what you're talking about!). |

| 70 | Melissa German | I grew up in a river town, Dubuque, Iowa, and every summer the majestic riverboats would make frequent stops in our port. It was awesome to see these mighty boats up close and I loved to hear the calliope play as they steamed away. We definitely need to do everything we can to preserve these boats and the cultural heritage they represent to our nation. |
| 71 | Donna LoPinto | This is an historic piece of history worth saving and is a great lesson to one and all of days gone by. |

| 74 | Lori Hertzberg | We just returned two weeks ago from our second family trip in the last two summers and our prayer is to once again travel the river on the Delta Queen in the future. Keep up the good work |
