Died the weekend before my last week of a contract with client. Had to frantically build up another development system to get the contract completed. Lost three days of time trying to fix notebook, buying new notebook and rebuilding it. Problem turned out to be due to overly long tab on access port pushing into chip on motherboard. I was able to fix the motherboard by re soldering the tab but this was a few weeks after loosing the notebook. My business cost due to lost time was $2K due to this failure.Flag

In under two years, the power connection totally broke off. I had it re-soldered but it still doesn't work. The technician couldn't figure out how to make the computer recognize the adapter, which worked up until it died. $1000 is a lot for a below-average computer with such a short lifespan. It's also made my life as a student and writer a pain in the neck. I don't plan to get another Dell in the future because of this.Flag

Plug sticks two inches out the back of the unit. Computer would no longer power up on AC and battery would not charge. A new motherboard would cost between 400-500 dollars. I spent close to 3,000 dollars on this unit. I don't have any more money to buy a part that broke within one week of the end of my one year warranty. The warranty started when my computer was shipped from the plant, not when I received it. At the VERY least, Dell should replace the motherboard at no cost to me.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 2, 2007City & State: Natural Bridge, VADell Crap-top Make/Model (ex: Inspiron 1150): Inspiron 1150Your personal experiences in Dell Hell: My computer would overheat to the point where it would leave red marks on my legs. One day it overheated to the point where it killed my hard drive. I knew this, because Windows would take 1 hr to load. I had the harddrive replaced at $300 and reloaded all my software and it worked fine again. (The Dell warranty had just run out so I had a local do it). Now, just this week, I had to send it out for more repairs because the AC adapter stopped charging it. I noticed the charging port was loose and I had to hold the cable a certain way to get it to charge. Also, the laptop would just shut down so I had to let the battery discharge completely to get it to start charging the battery again (the little green light wasn't solid). Then it just died and I just couldn't charge it anymore. I spent $100 to have the jack soldered back in, but it only lasted a week and the jack came loose again. I took it to another place to have it looked at, and the computer guy said my laptop's motherboard had been partially burned by the solder and that he couldn't solder a new jack in, that I needed a new motherboard. He said as much as the motherboards are ($300), I should just get a new one and gave me my laptop back dead. Now, I've got a $1200 paperweight.Flag

I have had this problem for the past year and Dell's only solution was to have me pay to replace the motherboard - $500 to start with. As most of us have only paid approx $1,000 and this issue happened just after the warranty - this to me is idiotic. Esp since most of us can't afford to pay another $500 on top of the $1,000 we paid for their product.Flag
