Comments: As a previous student in DPIR I believe in the strength of the department, having also worked for the university, it is one of - if not the - strongest department in the university. As a result of the skills I gained in DPIR I have completed very prestigious internships and job roles and have also moved onto a Master's degree at an incredibly prestigious French university. DPIR is fundamental to the future of Westminster and should be help up as a positive an example to other internal departments. It should not have to endure cuts.Flag -

It would be a travesty if such a talented group of staff (and their students) would find themselves without a home.Flag

Name: A. Golland on Feb 23, 2013Comments: Decreasing political studies in the UK has the result of increasing the "democratic deficit" and reducing the overall pool of political students at a time when there is already a political elite coming mainly from the Oxbridge educational system. Politics must be widely available as a subject otherwise we will find the political apathy in the UK worsening year on year.Flag

Name: Gordon Ackroyd (UWE Politics 2008-2011) on Feb 25, 2013Comments: If this cut comes to pass, then I am ashamed of my alma mater. Ashamed, but not surprised: I could see the writing on the wall in 2008, when Chancellor West, opening the Distinguished Executive Address lecture, stated – naturally without irony or, heaven forbid, foresight - that there “was much that Universities could learn from the banking industry”. And so here and now we see the result of such dire ambitions. A so-called University being shorn of its Humanities – its moral, philosophical and cultural underpinnings.Flag
