We, concerned citizens for the District of Columbia Public Schools, Division of Special Education Transportation, stand in solidarity with the transportation workers who vehemently request that the DC Court appoint and supervise an independent monitor to oversee transportation employees to ensure that David Gilmore of GilmoreKean, LLC (the court appointed administrator), abide by all laws/civil rights governing District of Columbia employees. This matter is of grave concern and high importance to all residents, guardians, and concerned individuals.
*For years, DCPS special education bus system has failed to transport special needs students to school safely and reliably due to the lack of resources--no leadership.
*David Gilmore, credited for improving the District’s dysfunctional public housing system, is allegedly, out of control.
*Various media persons witnessed 100+ employees protesting at 1709 3rd St. NE, Wash, DC. on 25 May 2004. Employees state larger protests are scheduled.
*With June 23,’04 marking Gilmore’s first year, drivers, attendants, and management state that subjective and objective data reveal DCPS bus system remains dysfunctional.
*Gilmore stated upon appointment, ”It oughtn’t be that complicated to get kids from one place to another and then again.” We wonder if DCPS even asked Gilmore to offer a plan of action before appointing him. Obviously—it’s not working!
