Name: Amir Fuad Bin Hussain on Sep 28, 2003Country: MYComments: Malaysia has come a long way since our independence in 1957. As a society, Malaysians have matured by leaps and bounds into one that recognises the differences and the quirks resulting from living in a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-whatever country. While no one can probably claim to be entirely happy with whatever government policies that are in place, I am sure most (if not all) of us, are utterly loyal and undivided in our support for our beloved country. The arts, besides entertaining, has also been one avenue where Malaysians have been expressing their thoughts, wishes and dreams in a society already with severe restrictions, self-imposed or otherwise. To impose guidelines, would only serve to make matters worse. Let creativity rule the arts scene, as the way God intended it to be.(at least that's the way I think God intended it to be).Flag

Name: Viji Krishnan on Sep 28, 2003Country: MYComments: I agree that its about time Malaysia grew up and became more transparent. And currently through the arts we are able to laugh at things which are serious issues but they haven't got to a stage of racial or political contention due to this platform where we can all come together and laugh at it.Flag

Name: Briana Mohan on Sep 28, 2003Country: USComments: I lived for five years in Malaysia and learned an enormous amount about the country, its people, its culture, its politics, and its history through attending theatre events. The performing arts in Malaysia are some of the most dynamic and impressive I have seen, and arts companies should be encouraged to further expand and explore whatever subject matter that they and their audiences feel is compelling. Thank you.Flag

Name: Christopher Toh on Sep 28, 2003Country: MYComments: I have always been a strong supporter of performing arts, wherever I go, I always take time to go see something to do with performing arts, be it a cultural show or a musical in any country I visit. But for DBKL to impose such ridicuolous guidelines if not mad ones, they are just showing the Malaysian public what their true colours are, like we have always known them for what they are, plain rubbish! How is Malaysian Arts ever going to move forward or challenge on the big stage when everything an actor does on stage is prohibited This goes to show how 'small' DBKL can be or how 'broad-minded' and 'liberal' they will ever be.Flag

Many civil servants need to be made accountable for serving the aspirations of the people, instead of pandering to the narrow minds of a vocal minority. We don't need ideological chauvinists deciding what plays we can or cannot see!!!Flag
