Name: Bridget E. McIlwee on Feb 20, 2010Comments: As a former Executive VP of the Student Body (2005-2006), I am disappointed to hear of the way in which SGA is currently being run. The current SGA administration has seemingly forgotten that it is their job to represent and work for the STUDENTS of UD, not the University administration. Dayton to Daytona is not just a good time - it is a shining example of the community atmosphere that UD has always encompassed and promoted. It's been a defining UD tradition for 22 years; and especially after all of the hard work and safety improvements that have gone into the trip during the past few years, one unfortunate administration should not be allowed to derail it now. Both the SGA and University administrations need to listen to the UD alumni as well as current students and stop trying to change the University of Dayton culture that we all love and fondly remember.Flag

Name: Allison Kroeger on Feb 20, 2010Comments: Every year the administration takes away parts of UD that make UD unique. Without the bedsheets hanging from porches, the Friday-afternoon Pub, baby pools and crappy dorm rooms UD would have been just another school. I'll admit my education was average but my 4 years at UD made me who I am now. I hate to think of my freshman cousin coming out of UD as merely average and lacking the community and stories the rest of us had. Daytona is another aspect of UD that makes the school what it is. It brings us together as a community having shared the amazing trip together. Now that I'm a part of my Alumni Association it bonds me with those who graduated 10-20 years ago. It's a shame that those who don't even know UD (such as Sister Schmelling and the 2 that are now running SGA) are the ones deciding these changes.Flag

Name: Suzanne Grover '05 on Feb 20, 2010Comments: As a UD alum and former Trip Coordinator ('03-'05), I am extremely disappointed in how things are being run in the current SGA and what may become of D2D. SGA is supposed to be an advocate for the STUDENTS, whether it comes to D2D, Academics, Diversity, etc. If you are a current student at UD reading this, take a stand and show your support on Sunday for not only the future of D2D, but for all of those who have worked so hard to make it the great trip it is today.Flag

Name: Alex Davies on Feb 20, 2010Comments: As a UD alum (class of 09'), I went to Dayton2Daytona all four years. It was my favorite UD experience, and I looked forward to it each and every year. To deny future classes of this great opportunity would be a poor decision. Do not take this amazing tradition away!Flag

It would be a shame if it fell under the control of the Administration with the intent of eliminating the opportunity for current and future students to experience this great University tradition.Flag

Name: Daniel W Luckett on Feb 21, 2010Comments: The current constitution plainly says "An Amendment to this Constitution must be approved by a 3/5ths vote of the full-time and 3/4ths time undergraduates voting in a referendum...." It does NOT say what the proposed Constitution would say: 1-10ths. Just because the PROPOSED Constitution says 1-10ths of those voting must approve amendments does NOT mean that we must go by those rules NOW. Accordingly, any 'amendment' chosen to be passed by this SGA Senate must get the approval of 3/5ths the student body.Flag

Name: Maryjo Pirages on Feb 21, 2010Comments: I had always been quite skeptical of the Dayton to Daytona trip; however, after going on the trip for the first time right after graduation this past May, I was was pleasantly surprised and impressed at how safe, well run, and fun it was. It is a memory I will never forget and I am so happy I got to share such a fun vacation with ~3,000 of my friends - talk about community! While I understand there are liability issues with the trip and I can empathize with the administration's concerns, doing away with the trip completely is not the answer. There should be some form of COMPROMISE and thus, I sign this petition to in support of keeping the D2D trip in some form or another and in support of working together to preserve what makes UD unique - our inclusive, community spirit.Flag
