The DataBrowser is a great interface to display a table of information. It displays data in various ways such as: checkboxes, popup menus, text, icons and other user-customizable data. It provides ways to sort this data, and allows columns to be resized and re-arranged. It also provides ways to do a hierarchical list. As such, it is a very desirable piece of technology that could be used for various situations. It would be even better if it were bug-free. There have been bugs in the DataBrowser since its introduction in CarbonLib 1.1. The technote was last revised in December of 2000 (see http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn2009.html). Since its introduction, some bugs have been fixed along the way, but it is apparent that it has never been fixed completely such that it would work as described in the technote. We request that Apple Computer allocate the necessary resources to fix the remaining bugs in the DataBrowser so that it works as advertised. The DataBrowser has the potential to be a useful and widely-accepted technology if it only worked better. This petition will be sent to Apple Computer by October 15th, 2002. If you agree that fixing the DataBrowser should be a priority for Apple, please sign below.
