Dear Govenor Daniels: I recently visited two different BMV offices one in Indianapolis, and the other in Northwest Indiana. Both times I experienced long delays for simple maters that should have only taken a few minutes. One transaction was a license plate renewal with no changes 2 1/2 hour wait. The other transaction was to get and Indiana ID card a 2 3/4 hour wait. Yes, Istill have a watch and look at the time. The changes at BMV such as removing the clocks and changing the seating so people are not facing the counter is insulting to ones intelligence. Believe me when I tell you it is your name that is mentioned as the blame for this fiasco, not anyone else. It is your watch and you are in charge. Do something besides treat hoosiers as mindless. By the way we have figured out that the RV guy is not the real "mitch Daniels. See you in November of 2008. I will be at the polls early. Charles W. Strother

The BMV is a mess! I will be the first to admit it has been messed up for a long time. But it has gotten alot worse since daniels took office, and the BMV also stands inline with alot of other messes this office has created and blamed everyone else for.Need we the people remind you and your office that you work for us!!It is time you stop putting the blame on other people, stop treating hoosiers like we are a bunch of idiots,STOP MAKING EXCUSES!Whether or not the problem was there before you got in office is not the issue. The issue is your in office now, it is your problem, it is your man silverman running the BMV.So that being said fix the problems you have created or find someone who can.
We waited for over 3 hours for something that should have taken no more than an hour. This was ridiculous!
I went to renew my drivers license and I had to wait over 3 hours. I am 91 years old and this was just too much!
Shame on you for firing an employee for letting you know the problem. You really have your values twisted. Joel Silverman must go!
All I can say is that I tried to avoid going to a branch to get my new tags and tried to do it online...well, the wonderful BMV says my SSN doesn't match their records. I haven't changed that in my 36 years.

Governor Daniels, your shoot from the hips style of management is falling apart at the seams. You must discharge managers of departments that can not have the long view of the effects of changes before making those changes. You did this with the BMV, you did this with the sale of the I80 Tollroad, and you did this with the outsourcing of the child welfare and protective services. When are you going to act like our governor instead of a Bush clone?
The problems with the service at the BMV has been so much worse since this administration has taken over. We really never had problems at the Mooresville BMV. It was busy, but the wait time was usually pleasant even when we did have a bit of a wait. The clerks, as well as the management there, were always helpful and nice. Then they closed that branch, along with several others, which sent all those customers to the nearest branches, making the wait time ridiculous, as if the public had nothing more to do with our time. They should not be closing branches, but instead opening more in the busier cities. The employees are under a lot of stress which shows in poor customer service, and it is not their fault. I have known several of the ladies at the Mooresville, Plainfield and Martinsville branches because I have done business with them for years, and I have never seen their morale so low.I think Daniels and Silverman should answer to the public...
it's bad for law enforcement too...give karen her job back, just like with everything else, there's a cover up somewhere
First off, technically nobody knows if this employee was fired for the email except the person who fired her, so let's ignore that issue as we don't have enough public facts. I was unlucky enough to have to visit the BMV in Fishers the other day for a plate for my new car. What should have taken 15 minutes took about 2.5 hours. Once I was helped, by a very friendly and sympathetic BMV employee I should add, I mentioned that these computer problems seemed very big, and was curious if they had figured out how it went so wrong. She said that she was not supposed to talk about it, but added that "nobody was at fault" with regards to this massive screwup. At least that's what she had been told. I've worked in IT in the corporate world for more than 12 years. I've led an IT department before. I've also led large system replacements. I know that if I ever had a project screwed up this bad, that I'd be fired, as would any other CIO or VP IT. So I'm curious why that shouldn't hold true in this instance. IMHO, the top IT executive at the state in charge of this project failed to competently and successfully launch this new system, and therefore he/she should be fired. Potentially, depending upon how poor Joel Silverman's oversight of the project was, then he might deserve to be fired as well. That's what would happen in the corporate world, so why should it be any different in government? We need to hold government employees accountable just as we hold employees responsible in the corporate world. Without this accountability, the efficiency our government will continue to be considered by the majority as substandard, poor performing, and out of touch with reality.

I recently went to renew my driver license and get a motocycle endorsement. The nitwits at the greenwood branch gave me a motorcycle only license which I drove on for weeks until I notices the mistake. The help at these branches are really not fit for the workplace. Most must be patronage employees like in Chicago, my old home town.
Indiana is an "at will" state, which is dangerous in itself. To send the message that someone is to be fired for free speech is an infringement on civil liberties.
Any corporation would have demanded that these issues be handles differently. Where was the Human Resource Dept.? The CEO of any company would want to know about this and fix it, NOW. where is the Governor? Mitch, get a grip. Janet
What a foul-up when Gov. Daniels thought he was "improving" the BMV system...B.S., I say!!!!
What is with the news service in reporting the recent delays at the BMV. My wife waited 2 1/2 hours in March 2006 to renew her driver's license. The delays in Allen county In have not improved since and now they blame the new computer system. I know the Gov. doesn't stand in these lines.

mitch should be fired for having the lady at the dmv fired he thinks he has so much power that little fuckin worm need to craw back in the rectum he crawled out of

Governor Daniels has been the biggest crook and cocksucker in Indiana's history. He had the gall to fire an employee that was doing the right thing in expressing the problems at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. I am outraged that an employee has been fired for telling the public about the farcical problems at the license branches throughout Indiana. Commissioner Joel Silverman needs to be held accountable for this chickenshit disaster in the two years he has been working in state government. Outsourcing, pathetic leadership, long waits, long lines, substandard service, and rude employees have been the hallmark of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles -- the worst since 1986. I have this to say about Governor Mitch Daniels and Commissioner Joel Silverman: Go Suck My Dick!! They have been an embarrassment to the public in Indiana -- they are a cancer to the constituents and people of this state.
STAY IN INDIANA AND WORK ON KEEPING OUR JOBS HERE INSTEAD OF HAVING A FOREIGN COMPANY COME OUR TO TAKE MY JOB FROM ME AND MY FAMILY !!! THEN YOU TAKE MY TAX DOLLARS AND GIVE TO THEM AND THEN RAISE MY PROPERTY TAXES !!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE !! NOT GETTING MY FAMILIES VOTE NEXT TIME
I'm still angry that the city of Gary has no full-service license branch. A city the size of Gary needs a full-service license branch.

I bought a new vehicle, and I keep trying to find out roughly what my cost is going to be to register the vehicle, but can't get license bureau to pick phone and the online service is unavailable. Very Poor service compared to neighboring states. I am not quite sure firing Silverman is the complete answer but change is needed, not closing more branches either.
fix it!
You have created a most ridiculous situation and the sad part is that you're continuing to let it exist.
One lousy deal after another for the residents of this state. This administration needs to be held accountable and responsible for continuing to ramrod rotten deals and politics through to the taxpayers. People speaking up about problems and those looking at this administration with a skeptical eye are not "anti-anything"...we are simply wanting to consider options and stategies other than those proposed. Quit with the hard line, shove it down their throats approach and get qualified professionals and concerned employess. We don;t need a bunch of yes men anymore. Get over the Napolean complex Mitch and get a clue.
Mitch needs to realize he is in the "Real" word and that he Represents ALL the People.
The problems that the BMV is having with the computer system is unexcusable. I work for a software company and if our software failed as miserably as the BMV software has, the company I work for would be out of business. Shame on the leadership of the BMV for not having a more thorough testing of the software. There is just no excuse for the problems the BMV is having.
To whom it may concern, I am a Porter County citizen and a former County Council member. I attended the hearing here about the closure of the license branch and found Mr. Silverman to be rude and condescending to the citizenry. I opposed the closure of so many branches in so many cities. It has meant increased travel for service, longer lines and wait times and poorer service overall. A small fee increase might have solved the fiscal problem and prevented the service delivery problems. Margaret Willis

mitch daniels. is a neo con. as bush's first budget director he told congress that Iraq would only cost 50 billion. did you know that he is one of the architects of that war? go to http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040606P.shtml when mitch took office in indiana.. he got rid of 49,000 great middle class jobs in our state offices. .and sent them to florida and texas. then he took many people ( you paid the bill).. to asia looking for more. 1500 or 2,000 jobs.. does not make up for the state of indiana hard workers.. who ran our state in many areas. BMV was one of those. the ignorance of the american people is appalling. Democrats are at fault too.. for not raising hell.. and telling the state.. what he did. the way I learned. .was rachel carson rep in the house of representatives.. one evening... on floor of the house in washington.. carried by c-span live. Yep.... and did you know that robert kennedy jr... has filed a lawsuit as of july 13th against the usa government? go to http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/071706P.shtml.. and get caught up.. due to the creep.. gonzales.. who is supposed to bring justice.. but protects.. bush and all his buddies... kennedy jr had to go around the justice dept and the gop. .who stole the last 2 elections. go to http://www.bradblog.com and the 17 page article on the stolen elections.. in "rolling stone " magazine. we are in the clutches.. of great incredible greed.. and the neo cons who want our money.. the world.. and our democracy.... you all better wake up.. and start talking to the people big time.

I went to my local BMV on South Meridian and I received exceptional service. I was in and out in less than 25 minutes. The biggest delays I saw were caused by customers who weren't prepared when they got to the license branch. One lady didn't have her proof of insurance and another person lost their license and wanted to arugue with the employee that they shouldn't need their birth certificate. I bet people like this are the same people who write insulting articles asking for peoples jobs. If we do out part and are prepared when we get to the bmv then maybe we won't have to wait so long when we get there.
Was at the BMV on 7/17-I was #23, they were on #91--I was there from 1:45-4:50. Had to return on 7/21--was #64 they were at #41. I left 35 minutes later when they were at 54 (8 people who had numbers between 41 and 54 left before the number was called). The BMV has not improved in the last 5 years. There is no "Service" at the BMV. The branch I went to was did not have enough seating, no restrooms, no water fountain and if you had a physical or medical need to be done in a timely fashion--you were out of luck! Is it not possible for those who have need to get an appointment? I had three children with me because I had no other choice. Talk about a wasted day!
It's time for a change!
