It is an appeal to do this smartly and with conscience taking into account the historical importance of the ancient Damascene urban and architectural heritage. There is nothing that suggests that you cannot develop an old city to incorporate modern services and become an even richer touristic experience, while at the same time doing that with enough thought so as not to harm the original context and most importantly the local residents. It has been proven to work in other places and could be applied to ancient Damascus.
