Name: James Anderson on Jan 30, 2012Comments: Whwe a deal is done between an artist and dealer/buyer for an item/product that is that and what the dealer/buyer does with the item/product thereafter is no concern of the artist and certainly no concern of relatives of the artist who had no involvement with the creation or sale of the item/product. It is already too expensive buying items at auction with fees now averaging 18 - 20%, plus online bidding fees, packing and postage costs etc without ARR added in as well!!Flag

Name: Mr F W Dent on Jan 30, 2012Comments: The artist sets his price and the customer buys it. That should be the end of the artists involvement with that work of art. I totally disagree with this new ruling.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 31, 2012Comments: It is a confidence trick; the bloodsuckers charge the levy but neither they nor the auctioneers will guarantee that the artwork is genuine. Big incentive for forgers, enormous conflict of interest.Flag

Name: Nicholas J Benbow on Jan 31, 2012Comments: It beggars belief that this well-meaning but destructive tax should be introduced in the UK with a lower exemption threshold than the Directive permits. Another unfortunate example of our civil servants gold-plating EU legislation to the detriment of business in the UK.Flag

Name: Aldeburgh on Jan 31, 2012Comments: I agree with this petition and all the points it raises. In addition its unintended consequences are that it will hinder the career of younger artists as dealers will disinclined to take a risk with their work. Payment is due even when there is a loss on the sale which is often the case in this recession. That cannot be what was intended.Flag
