After a transgender student filed a complaint with the Board of Education Office of Civil Rights, high school district 211 has refused to allow a transgender student to change in the locker room of her gender identity. Superintendent Dan Cate's official statement can be found here https://adc.d211.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Su...This decision affects not one, but many transgender youths throughout the district. While this decision is both oppressive and demeaning, it could also cost the school district 6 million dollars in funding. Signing this petition will show your support for the transgender students of district 211 and will show Dan Cates that there is public opposition to the board's ruling on this matter. This petition will be sent to Dan cates after reaching a suitable amount of signatures.

The petition has reached one hundred signatures. I am now finalizing a formal letter to the Board of Education to ensure these names are presented during the next public hearing.

We fully support the position of The Department of Education as it relates to this matter. Transgender students should have the option to use locker room facilities of the gender they identify with. Any decision short of this is discriminatory.

We're all Humans. We need to treat everyone like they belong and that their choice of sexual affiliation is respected.

Its 2015 people. Why are we still treating kids like they are second class citizens just for being who they are? This is so embarrassing for our district.

They have access to the locker room they just change in the bathroom stalls. So before you all get your panties wadded you should get the facts right. Just because people call themselves a girl if they were born a guy doesn't make them female. They still have make sex organs which makes them male. Sorry not sorry.

Truly abominable that even in this day and age we experience firsthand the discrimination unjustly delivered to those we value in our communities. If a student isn't given the opportunity to express who they are in their schools, where they essentially "live" for 8 hours a day, how can they feel adequate?

If said person is a male or a female they need to be able to use male or female locker room/bathroom. This is how they see themself and others see them. To segregate this person is now a safety issue!
