This petition has been made on behalf of years 4, 5 and 6 at Dumbarton Academy to raise my concern about us pupils not getting study leave. The teachers have informed us that study leave will be substituted by studying in class. This causes unnecessary stress for seniors who are doing a large amount of highers. The 5th and 6th year pupils have been used to study leave and now that its been taken from them, it will cause disruption to their usual study ethic. When studying, some pupils may prefer to be in the comfort of their own home. As for me, I need to be in my room in complete silence to study as I am easily distracted. Some pupils feel that they can only study when listening to music and many teachers will not be acceptable of this. It is difficult to study peacefully in class due to all the distractions and interruptions occurring. Also, due to not getting study leave, teachers will feel that they have more time to teach the course, resulting in the pupils being unprepared and stressed for their exams. In addition, some individuals may need to focus more on a particular subject(s) than others, however they will have no choice when studying in class, as the teachers will not allow the pupils to study for a different subject in their class. On top of all these issues, more time in school results in more homework, which is a distraction and also decreases our time for studying at home.
