Name: Rosemarie Iannuzzi on Oct 28, 2002Comments: I want to state that I agree fully with this petition. I have been with the Graduate Center for 15 years and have never experienced the difficulties with the computers and networks since we have moved here. My computer needs to be updated also. My College Assistant, Shirley Tolbert, has constant problems with her computer and she is constantly calling Information Resourses to resolve problems. She has been told that her computer is completely out-of-date. The problems we have had with the sending and receiving faxes have been unbelievable. You cannot run an academic program with the many problems we have had. Also, not being able to have individual printers and told that we need to use the xerox machine to print have also produced many problems for the program. It is impossible to use the xerox machine to copy things for the department and faculty, while at the same time using it for print jobs and faxing. Some days it is impossible to work. This is not a professional way to work in this day and age and especially for a "state of the arts" academic community. Something needs to be done now and with the imput of staff, faculty and students.Flag

Name: Andre Balog on Oct 28, 2002Comments: To say that the computer network, as well as the terminals themselves, are unreliable is a kind understatement: they are an unmitigated disaster. While I am not an expert on network matters, I cannot help but point ot that the terminals that were installed in the Graduate Center were outdated even at the time of their purchase and installation, as they were equipped with Celeron processors at a time when the Pentium processor was already recognized as the industry standard.Flag

Name: Ozgur Usenmez on Oct 28, 2002Comments: My favorites in my browser and other important internet files were lost three times this year due to inability of our system to find my network profile. I think this is largely detrimental to scholarly work and any future research process.Flag

Name: Jill Stevenson on Oct 28, 2002Comments: I not only use the computers for school work, but I also have a position in the Martin Segal Center. Many weeks I am unable to get all of my hours in because the system locks me out of the sharved drive, programs do not work, or the printers malfunction. I spend much of my time putting in work orders rather than doing the work for which I am paid.Flag

Name: Fazia Aitel on Oct 28, 2002Comments: The computer Center has never offered reliable service since I have been a graduate student at the GC. I am glad that someone finally addresses this unacceptable problem. I have sent several emails complaining about it and never received an answer. I have been very frustrated with this especially when waiting for important professional-related emails. Thanks again for taking a stand.Flag
