We are concerned citizens of Cumberland and we don't want to see our neighborhood elementary schools broken to save money. The academic and emotional cost of transitioning elementary school children 3 times far outweighs any potential financial benefit. We are concerned that parent involvement will be significantly diminished and that education will lack continuity and cohesiveness. We don't want our children riding buses all over town and attending three schools before they reach the 6th grade.
We disagree that this is the only way to cut such a small percentage out of a large budget. We urge the school committee to hear our voices and vote against the school department's budget.
