WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, DO HEREBY PETITION ON BEHALF OF THE COALITION OF THEATRES OF COLOR and do hereby assert that the local City and State governments of New York must be held accountable for the gross economic disparity and blatant discrepancy that exists between mainstream cultural institutions and community based cultural institutions. The intention of this petition is to address and call attention to the inequitable distribution of the economic resources which are disproportionably allocated. It is imperative that we receive an adequate and equitable percentage of the financial resources distributed. The traditions and culture of indigenous people in urban communities in the City and State of New York must be financially sustained. The Coalition of Theatres of Color is a newly formed partnership of 16 of the oldest and most revered community based theatre institutions in the City and State of New York.
