Name: Mick Woolsey on Jan 18, 2007Comments: It is so difficult as a family to stay cohesive and healthy when one family member needs special services. Fatigue alone can cause families to break apart. Add to that more time and energy just getting to an appointment and the burdens seem even heavier. Please help the families who help the children by keeping open the clinics in Cedar City. Caregivers can only be extended so far and then they crash. That crash impacts the whole community.Flag

There is so much cost involved when these children need to be transported to other areas: lost wages to get off work, transportation costs, overnight stays, babysitting costs, etc. Please restore the center to Cedar CityFlag

Name: Tammy Bishop, RN on Jan 19, 2007Comments: The Southwest Utah Health Dept. sponsors this clinic. I have worked at the health dept. in St. George and Cedar City and even though I haven't helped with the clinic I have seen it in action and talked with the nurses who arrange them. A lot of planning and work goes into getting all the paper work together and clients notified before the doctors arrive from Salt Lake. I have talked to some families that were seeing doctors from Primary Children's and they were very grateful to have the specialty doctors come to our area so they wouldn't have to drive all the way to Salt Lake. It is very expensive (gas, food, and sometimes lodging plus taking older children out of school for 1-2 days, etc.) for these families and usually these families are low income anyway. I remember a couple of families worried that their cars wouldn't make it that far before breaking down. If the clinics were discontinued, then the communities in southwest Utah would have to try to encourage doctors who specialize in serving children with special needs to move to our area. It seems that governments/agencies are continually trying to take away benefits from the low income sector of our state. Tammy Bishop, RNFlag

Name: Shandra Powell on Jan 19, 2007Comments: This is an extremely valuable service for our clients with special needs children. As approximately 19% of the children we serve have a disability, the idea of losing one of the few resources available in our small community is very concerning.Flag

These families would have extra hardships and financial burdens because of this change. Edna Henke Executive Director The Arc of Washington CountyFlag

Name: Sherri Dial on Jan 20, 2007Comments: There is always a need in southern Utah for services and the state tries to cut the services in Cedar and St. George often. Many of these services are avalible in multible areas in the Northern part of the state. Families in Cedar City deserve the services fpr their family members.Flag

Fortunately, our family would be able to afford the trip to St. George for services, but I am signing this petition because many families would not be able to afford the extra expense of going to St. George.Flag

Name: Lisa Laird on Feb 22, 2007Comments: The quality of care and service my child received at the St. George special heath care needs clinic in Feb. 07 did not compare favorably to the services we once received in the Cedar City clinic. What a pity, in a year of budget surplus, that the state chooses to cut services and funding for Utah's most vunerable little citizens. For many parents it is a financial hardship to take so much time away from their jobs to travel to St. George with their child.Flag
