Just received an advertisement for 6 night Caribbean cruise for less than $600. When hotel stays cost more than $100 a night, how can a cruise ship night cost less than that? This does not make sense. Cruise lines are struggling. Perhaps for a good reason. They travel to pristine natural waters and coasts, sometimes half empty, generating and spreading unnecessary, disproportionate amount of pollution. Their wake and proximity to shore endanger delicate coastal ecology and marine life. They promote lavish on-board spending which generate secondary environmental impact. The cruise experience in itself offers very limited interaction with local people and way of life, and very little return to local economy and environment. I personally will not take a cruise trip. I hope people will boycott cruise liners and force them to shut down. Stop this destructive practice to our Mother Earth.
