Name: Ivanka Lennon on Dec 29, 2009Comments: I heard a MET officer last year describing what a huge problem trafficking is in Croydon, as I have heard other reliable sources say too. Trafficking will go hand in hand with organised crime so there are many reasons why the dedicated anti-trafficking unit should be maintained.Flag

Name: Mrs Gillian De Veras on Jan 7, 2010Comments: The more difficult the situation is, the more we need to hold firm on what really matters. Human trafficking matters - it's a modern form of slavery, abolished in this country in 1833. It's time the government and the Met Police caught up!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 7, 2010Comments: Human Trafficking is one of the fastest growing and most prolific crimes in the world. In the context of an increasingly connected global community - the UK, and indeed local communities within it, cannot ignore serious issues and crimes like Human Trafficking. The Met Police are short sighted and severely lacking in strategic direction to assume that they will be able to most effectively tackle this issue by simply lumping it in with other issues of crime under their new structure for clubs and vice. Not only have they lost incredibly valuable experience and knowledge in the officers who are now not part of that unit anymore, but they have lost the confidence of the public in regard to their ability to deal effectively and strategically with this issue. A dedicated unit for human trafficking needs to be re-established now and previous members of it need to be re-employed to ensure continuity and long term effective action on this issue.Flag
