Comments: Any comprises to freedom pass will have an impact on many residents who have no other means of getting about. In many cases it must be a lifeline to not feeling a prisoner in your own home.

Comments: Without the freedom pass many pensioners will be prisoners in their own homes. They will also have to pay fares to reach their doctors and hospitals, whereas fit young schoolchildren will be able to use the buses free of charge, even during the school holidays.

Comments: I am a pensioner in my 75th year, living alone on a very small pension. As I don't have a car, I use my Freedom Pass to get groceries from reasonably priced shops and supermarkets - without it, I would be forced to buy food at shops within walking distance, at higher prices and with less choice. The Freedom Pass is literally a lifeline for me - without it, my life would be not only much more expensive, but more isolated. I use it almost every day - in fine weather, I am able to have a cheap day out in town, or visit friends and family. I understand that providing free travel to all pensioners is very expensive - I would be in favour of denying the pass to very rich pensioners, but the level would have to be carefully considered. As it is, my income, and the small savings I have, means I fall just outside access to any other benefits.

Comments: This goes beyond the financial issues as it is an essential part of assisting older people to integrate with the community. In turn this has essential mental health benefits.
