Name: Alan And Helen Crawley on Jan 2, 2010Comments: Without the freedom pass many pensioners will be prisoners in their own homes. They will also have to pay fares to reach their doctors and hospitals, whereas fit young schoolchildren will be able to use the buses free of charge, even during the school holidays.Flag

Name: Mrs Fay Watson on Jan 5, 2010Comments: I am a pensioner in my 75th year, living alone on a very small pension. As I don't have a car, I use my Freedom Pass to get groceries from reasonably priced shops and supermarkets - without it, I would be forced to buy food at shops within walking distance, at higher prices and with less choice. The Freedom Pass is literally a lifeline for me - without it, my life would be not only much more expensive, but more isolated. I use it almost every day - in fine weather, I am able to have a cheap day out in town, or visit friends and family. I understand that providing free travel to all pensioners is very expensive - I would be in favour of denying the pass to very rich pensioners, but the level would have to be carefully considered. As it is, my income, and the small savings I have, means I fall just outside access to any other benefits.Flag
