Canada is a country that is proud of its multiculturalism, and the English language is an inclusive language, with thousands of new words originating from other languages added every year. Our English department is one of the most respected in the world, and we, the students, feel that this embracing of multiculturalism should be reflected in our course choices. With a wealth of area studies departments available in the University, we feel that all English students could benefit from more cross-listing of foreign literature in translation courses. Students would be able to explore more literary offerings from outside of the Anglo-Saxon tradition, while having these very relevant credits count towards their degrees. We urge our department leaders to consider the incredible diversity of literature courses available on campus, and allow for this to be reflected in our English POST requirements.
