Kenya Najer CourvilleI am astounded! I am a proud Creole woman who took great difficulty in making a decision to leave Louisiana for fear of being seperated from my culture and possibly loosing some of what makes me who I am. I can't believe I've found this. Thank God for the internet. Ironically enough I have been working to put together a body of work (visual art) that expresses and commemorates the creole heritage. I am creole through and through on both my mother and father's side. Courvilles, Ladets, Ardoins, Guidry's; the list goes on. I am insulted at this attempt to make us mythological. I fly my creole flag and live my creole life and tell everyone who meets me here in Houston that seem to be a little confused by race PROUDLY that I am creole of Ville Platte, Eunice, Opelousas; born in Lafayette and raised in Lake Charles by beautiful CREOLE parents! The parents who taught me to be proud of who I am. So for all of us I will develop and show this body of work in homage to who we are! This millenium aren't we supposed to be more evolved. If we are not, there is no excuse, there are many avenues to learn about things. Mr. Alan Richman, anytime you want an education on creoles I would love to TEACH you. I even have living examples and documented lineage for your new found "findings". You can even come for a visit, I'll take you on a tour. I hope somehow you get to read this. AMAZING!
AnonymousBoth of my parents are Creole but my father looks so much darker than me. People see me talking to him and ask who that black guy I'm talking to is. They DON'T BELIEVE ME when I say he's my dad. I am a PROUD Creole. My culture and my ethnicity is not my skin color.

Darlene BalthazarKeep the history of Creole Heritage alive, it's noteworthy and well represented in the United States. If the people do not learn their past they will never have a future.
Bernadette Balthazar -CrawfordWow! All my life I've had to defend who and what I am because I don't look like the average black and now to know that this is how people preceive the Creole culture is amazing. I guess this is the way the world is. I love who I am and I am Creole.

Pam METOYER-EdwardsAs priorly stated, more research needs to be done before something is published inaccurately. The Creole culture is alive and well, and we do EXIST. There is a Creole Event at the Pheasant Run in St. Charles Illinois beginning on the 31st of July and ending on the 1st of August. Please join us for a better understanding of our culture.
Brenda MetoyerI am very interested in seeing that this petition is carried out. I applaud the originator of said petition. Some one has to do it! Why not us?!

JoAnne LaCourAny word that can carry such self-hatred behind it, should clearly never be a choice for a race and/or a culture. It saddens me when I read this petition that I am related to many of these people, but I myself define myself as being black. I hope that one day "WE" as black people can just learn to embrace being BLACK and not continually find more ways to further divide ourselves.
Sharif ParkerI have to say I whole heartedly disagree with Alan Richman's view. However I believe Creole Heritage has to do with a certain culture of people that were born in the New World. Some how or another those people have a combined African, French, Indian, or Spanish lineage. However to classify that rich culture as a race i don't agree with. My mothers side of the family is full of French surnames, some of gens de couleur, some of afranchis from Haiti, and some of black slaves of Frecnh Louisiana. I am not one who supports the idea of an Aristocratic mentallity that some believe is the birth rite of Creole Lineage. I am black, and my heritage is Creole. Some of you who support the results of PLACAGE, and those gens de couleur who felt the need to PASE BLANC, are perpetuating the racist establishment which caused those things to come into exitance in order to escape the harshness of slavery. French, Spanish, and African are not races. Because they are all different shades of people who claim those cultures currently. Have pride in your culture, background and history. I know mine and it includes a colourful history, great food, and an almost extinct dialect. Teach your children, and make sure you know yourself. Because to be honest, most people of Creole descent didnt care about it not to long ago. Especially when families left in droves from Louisiana to places like Chicago and Los Angeles. The babyboomers infact were not even concerned about speaking Frecnh or its cousin Creole. So if you are going to petition this man, do it for the right reasons and not jump on something because Coin Coin's story has been made it popular. P.S. I love my Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Etouffe, Beneigts, Calas and Grits, red beans and rice, dirty rice and a whole bunch of other Creole Dishes. Born in Chicago, raised in NYC, and have family still in New Orleans, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Natchitoches. Cant get much more Creole than that.
Calandra Payne-PrestonCreoles absolutely exist. I can trace my genealogy to the first French settlers in the early 1700 in Louisiana and their mixed blood or African concubines and placee`s. I live in the Creole community of Prairie Laurent.
Stephens DeculusCreole and proud of it.
Anhwar LaCourIt's crazy for anyone to say that we don't exist, yet the entire southern region of this country has been strongly impressed with our culture,
