| 601 | Anne Marie Helser aka Keesha Arlene Flynn | Thank you, thank you very much. I am a part of this awesome creole community but was not raised with a background of creole culture. I was adopted at birth and have, ever since, been in the dark about my ownself and where I come from. Yes, every day I use this word "Creole" because every day I am asked "What are you?" "Are you mixed?" "Why is your hair like ours?" (mainly from older black ladies who cannot even conceive the fact that humans do mix races) Any who, I found through my parents (adoptive) that I am Creole and Irish which makes me very fair skinned but my hair, nose, lips and other features all over that explain my... creation. I will be telling anyone and everyone to sign this petition, because we must STOP THE IGNORANCE |

| 603 | Antona Smith | I am of Creole heritage. Our family originated in Haiti and our matriarch was kidnapped and brought to New Orleans by a Frenchman. Our family name is Guyol de Guiran and one of our ancestors painted a mural at the St. Louis Cathedral.
Our family was part of the "Gens de couleur libre" or Free People of Color of pre-Civil War New Orleans. New Orleans's original three-tier, decidedly French and Creole society, disipated after the Civil War because the larger American culture did not recognize a thre-tier system. My family were wealthy and owned boxes on the French Quarter.
Our matriarchal ancestor moved to St. Louis in the last quarter of the 1800s because of scarlet fever. We still have family ties to New Orleans and my mother always visited the city until her death when I was 4.
We are a rich culture that extends beyond our French speaking, gumbo eating, Catholic worshipping aspects that the larger society knows. We love our family and our heritage.
My family, like a lot of Creols that have been dispersed throughout the United States, is a line of mixture including Blackfoot and African American on my dad's side, and Creole, French, Italian, Jewish, and African on my mother's side.
I am glad this move to preserve who we are and where we come from, no matter how many generations have passed, is alive and well! New Orleans and her rich heritage, our rich heritage must be saved! |

They come from Louisiana, the Carribean and the Indian Ocean for the CBLF (Creole a base lexicale francaise). They are also found in Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese old colonies. Can we bring them together is the question. |

I am a French Creole, originally from Louisiana (French, Native American & African heritage with Spanish cultural influences). My son is a Creole-Puerto Rican of all the above, including Spanish and French Basque on his father's side. We very well exist and have been fighting all our lives for true recognition. We are constantly fight the ignorance, but will never give up! Thanks to the Creole Heritage Center and our own voices we shall prevail! |

| 630 | Allison Bianca LaCour | I am 100% Creole and Proud of it! I believe the author of the article in GQ showed his ignorance and the lack of respect for the original "free people of color." It's as if he is comparing us to Santa Claus or some made up fairy tale. My mother's maiden name was Friedman, my maternal grandmother was a Chelette, my maternal great-grandmother was a Morin-Roque and my fraternal grandmother was a sarpy. There is a long legacy of creoles and it is very much alive and well. Some one should invite Mr. Alan to the church fair on cane river, LA and stick a meat pie in his mouth! |

Again Thanks!!!! |
| 632 | Iris Gosserand | Creole heritage is Struggling, but I am here to fight for it's survival. Don't allow the masses to box us in when having to identify Our race, having a limited selection to choose from: white, black, or asian. Make your own box and put Creole! They have any questions, ask them did you question that white or black or asian for selecting their box? Keep educating our children on our rich heritage. Keep the Pride riding High! |

I have met many of us (even in my own family) who deny this. I am so proud to have an orginization that my children and I can truely call OURS, and no one not even ourselves (creoles) can deny it's need in the community to HELP preserve, enhance our unique American culture and way of LIFE!! |
