The district officially reversed the schedule change and we are going back to the original times. I am honestly stunned by this result because it is truly your steadfast commitment that forced them to listen to us.

CPS (Chicago Public Schools) had decided to change the start and end times of several schools including my own (Walter Payton College Prep) from the times 9:00 AM-4:30 PM, which is unfair for the far majority of students in the school who use public transportation, in which they will be caught in the center of rush hour and risking the well-roundedness and safety of students involve in long commutes and extracurricular activities

I honestly never thought this would reach five hundred signatures. It is humbling to see so many people who share the same worries about our safety and our commute. This movement is entirely because of your quick action.

It is unfair for CPS to change the start time of high schools just based on a 5% or less minority of special-ed students that use the buses. Clubs and activities will be negatively impacted, all for the benefit of perhaps 50 students.

I strongly believe the later school start and dismissal time will potentially expose our children to less safe commutes for those on public transit (as my daughter is) and allow less evening hours to fit in any extracurriculars, commuting home, studying, and dinner.

The late timing is terrible and will add one and a half hours to the daily commute because of traffic. After school activities and family time will be seriously curtailed. These timings make no sense for our school which is majority commuters.

My son takes two buses and a train to and from school, plus he is a 2 sport athlete. With the new start and end time he be be coming home around 8:30 ( that would just be on practice days - game days would be much later than that

The previous start times of 7:45 am to 8:00 am were working quite well in rounding out the entirety of a student's ability to commute, learn and participate in extracurriculars. The adjustment is erratic and irrational as it relates to the welfare or our students.

I strongly oppose a delayed start time, especially if not ALL CPS HS follow suit. A later start and dismissal time will wreak havoc on extra-curricular activities and the block schedule (which is part of what makes Payton special)
