Yes with a severe chronic pain issue. Because I had a nervous break down trying to take the steps to become more independant. Yes I would like to get of the Social Security payroll that I have only been on for the last 8 months. She thought I was getting addicted to my meds and kicked me to the curb. How nice. Well that isnt the case. Do I deserve to be treated like crap no. I once was a productive citizen in society. This is all because she cant take a chance with her license. After four years of treatment. That means I am sitting here after doing what she told me to do with no pain meds and no where to turn except to inpatient myself for methodone. I dont think so. She agrees I will always be in pain but she will not treat it anymore. Thanks Doc and thanks my government for making me feel less than human and kicking me down again just when I was about to get up. |

If I had an infection there would not be a problem recieving treatment. There are 76 milliom Americans out there suffering everyday in pain . I am one of those people. I know in our state there are only 8 or so doctors that actualy treat pain. something has to happen in this state to make changes. We can join together to be a force to be delt with. The lack of understanding or belief in my chronic problems have plagued my medical care for years. Medical training needs to include education about the very real disease of chronic pain and train doctors to recognize and treat it rather than label those of us who suffer from it as people just wanting drugs. The medical community has been extremely slow to respond to the millions of people with chronic pain. They need to be alerted to a syndrome that has been around forever, unbearable chronic pain. We deserve the same respect by physicians as other disease sufferers and we deserve treatment, not rebuke. |

I have been in pain 24/7 since 1998, and in formal pain management since 1999. Medicare D plans will not approve medications that are prescribed by my pain mgt. physicians. As my only income now is SSDI, I cannot afford the medications that would allow me something called quality of life. I live trapped in my apt. most of the time in too much pain to enjoy life. My doctors are specialists in my pain conditions, and my Primary Care doctor and allergist/immunologist are in concurrence with their treatment of my pain. But the government has made it impossible for me to get the medications I need, or at the quantity I need, and after working 33+ years FT along with 2-3 PT jobs to support my family, when I became disabled, I had to wait 2 years for Medicare, and when Medicare Part D came along, I was very hopeful that I would be able to get the medications I need at a price I could afford on my low income. I now pay $67.97 a month for my premium for Part D, and my co-pays for those medications covered range from $6 to $60 for a 30-day supply. Every time my doctors attempt to get prior approval for a necessary medication, it is automatically denied by Cigna. When they appeal the decision, I am still denied. I have had a long, well-documented history of these conditions, as long as having Atherosclerotic Cardio-Vascular Disease. My blood pressure and pulse are increasing at an alarming rate as I am forced to suffer in agonizing pain, and the government continues to limit appropriate pain medications and treatment to those of us who truly need it. My pain clinic requires a thorough psychological evaluation before they take anyone on as a patient. We have a contract to abide by and I have never NOT abided by that contract. All my meds are filled at the same pharmacy, and my doctors are all kept apprised of my condition. I have to see my pain mgt. doctors once a month...since 1999...and still cannot get the medications that my doctors and other specialists in the diseases I have recommend. I feel that my life will be cut short, and the life I have left to live is just going to continue to deteriorate due to the government continuing to try to run the health care of its people. Doctors should be making these decisions, not the government. I dare you to spend a day in my body. |

It seems noone really cares about helping those with Chronic Pain, and it seems especially if you look "normal" and are managing to walk into an office. It does not matter how many hours you lose at work, your quality of life or whether you wish you could just have the nerve to kill yourself.....sometimes it seems like the ONLY way to escape the hell of Chronic, excruciating pain. There is no sympathy for us...only skepticism....are we in fact a drug dealer looking for a supply?, or are we abusing our own meds?...or selling them to children? There MUST be a better way and hopefully we find it soon. I cannot imagine living much longer like this. |

I dont want to use the word "story" because it invokes the idea of make-believe. Unless people live and experience chronic pain they have no understanding, nor sympathy. I am a bit discouraged that there are only 185? or so signatures. From the different bulletin boards I have read, there should be thousands on it.
My only disagreement with a registry of sorts is that we give away yet more of our privacy. I am going to sign it. In my heart, I dont believe a single politician gives a shit...excuse the french. On one bulletin board, someone had the right idea...a march on Washington! The special interest groups do it, so why not us? We are voters, and we are a special interest group, and we are being discriminated against. Maybe there is a way to start a class action law suit against the DEA and FDA for their strongarm tactics against the doctors that treat us. I dont know-but something needs to be done. The friggin' doctors operated on me, made no guarantees of success, caused my condition to be worse, requiring more surgeries, then they want to limit or stop my pain meds. I think we need to be more aggressive in our approach. |

I have suffered from CROHNS DISEASE for 24 yrs now as well as all the side effects from the various meds given to me to combat it. In addition I have had 5 spinal fusions, 9 shoulder operations (with another scheduled)1 operation to remove a unknown mass from my left side chest, 1 lung operation,2 hip operations, 2 r-knee operations, 3 abdominal operations (1 a temp colostomy) for the CROHNS, and 3 rectal operations for fissula and fissure with another up-coming and have now developed another non-stop pain that is coming from the rectal area along with non-stop bleeding. I am a police officer and a former U.S MARINE and retired ULTIMATE CAGE FIGHTER. I am used to suffering with and manageing being in pain,however, I get tired of it and there are times (and they are growing more frequent) in which I simply feel that i cannot continue to live in this pain. It NEVER, EVER stops!!!! No-one who has not either lived with this type of pain/condition nor watched a loved one slowly lose the will to live because of the constant non-stop pain can understand. I have complained to my Dr's numerous times and begged them for their help in managing my pain. They either try to pass the buck by saying that I need to get my pain meds from the "SPECIALISTS" who are seeing me for my various conditions (and they in turn state that I must get them from my primary care Dr as this is a long term condition and both side simply continue to pass the buck when I point out what each side is saying)or point out that "since I go to the gym and work out I must not be in THAT MUCH PAIN". How INSULTING!!!!!! I am punished because I try to keep myself healthy, because I try to keep my sanity and try to help deal with all this pain by doing something positive with my body????? Then, when I do get mad and state my case with no- bullshit, Iam classified along with other such patients as "drug seeking" or "uncooperative" I have found this problem only in this stupid ass state of Washington. The Dr's here are scared to death that the Police will be at their office to arrest them if they dare to write a narcotic Rx for a class 2 narcotic and none of them dare to write any of these drugs in the amounts or strengths that some us require to really do us any good. I read medical report after medical report detailing the medical associations stance that no 2 patients are alike in their need or tolerance levels for narcotic pain meds and yet in this state the Dr's are scared shit-less to write. I had one Dr who was willing to write the pain meds I needed and in the quantities and strenghths needed to allow me and other such patients, to live a life, while not pain free, but pain tolerable. Sure enough, the medical board took action against him and revoked his medical lic for "over prescribing narcotics" Yet could provide no solid evidence of what they considered "over prescribing" I spoke with the Washington state medical board personally and they were unable (or unwilling) to explain how they came to this determination but assured that they would find all of us another Dr in our areas that would continue to Prescribe to us "THE APPROPRIATE REQUIRED AMOUNT OF PAIN MEDICATION" but could not/would not expalin what they meant by that either. In any event this was 2yrs ago, to this day I have still not been referred to another pain management Dr to continue my pain care despite my continued and repeated calls to the medical board to honor their promise. I live in continued and growing pain every day and yet even suicide is illeagal in this state so what is a person supposed to do? As a cop I could very easily get the medications I need on the black market but because of my position as well as my belief that it is just plain wrong to go this route, I resist, but am able to better understand why some people eventually lose all hope of help from their Dr's and go this route. You make a person live in bad enough pain for a long enough time and even the most law abidding person will do whatever it takes to get out of the pain, and I cannot blame them. The drug "Elmiron" prescribed for IC can kill your liver. Vicodin and other pain medications laced with tylenol also cause chirrosis of the liver. I would rather have my pain managed by pain meds than surgery or medications that will cause me a painfull death of liver disease. Doctors do not monitor liver enzymes. They prescribe and tell you to come back in 6 months. I don't trust doctors anymore. At times when I am in #10 pain I have suicidal thoughts. The pain has ruined my life. I am on disability for depression. Depression is not my chief complaint, the pain is. It seems that pain is not considered a chief complaint. It has to be something else to get disability. In my case my psychiatrist signed the letter because no one seemed to recognize the PAIN as my problem, I took the psychiatric diagnoses. The depression is actually secondary to the PAIN!!!! |

I am on disability for depression. Depression is not my chief complaint, the pain is. It seems that pain is not considered a chief complaint. It has to be something else to get disability. In my case my psychiatrist signed the letter because no one seemed to recognize the PAIN as my problem, I took the psychiatric diagnoses. The depression is actually secondary to the PAIN!!!! |

| 195 | scott | gravatt | OH | US | I took a 122mph spill on my motorcycle. shateered a forearm and elbow which are full of metel plates and screws destroyed my right shouldr and ruputered discs in my neck. the medical system seems to think I i'm full of shit when i tell them im still in pain and need better medication than i get so im waiting too do damage too my internal organs by taking more of these drugs that don""t do the job the government needs to get there noses out of the doctors bussiness. hopefully a new administraion will listen to use who are in pain and need better meds |

After 3 lumbar surgeries(1 in 1995,1 in 2004 and another in 2005)i hurt every day and have just been dumped by my doctor. the 1995(age 17) surgery worked out fine and i was back to work a few months later but the more recent surgeries failed(botched in my opinion) and the surgeon called it degenerative disc disease, primary physician called it failed back syndrome, and the doc at the interventional pain clinic called it both. i was told i would be in pain for the rest of my life but he would only prescribe extemely low doses due to his fear i would become addicted. if due to pain i would have to take meds the rest of my life how does addiction come into play. I am now thirty years old and unable to work and unable to get insurance(paid into ssi and ssd but was denied so far due to my age) and doctors in my area only want people with "real" insurance. they also say they are referring people to the interventional pain consultants across the river in lewiston idaho. this is the outfit that just dumped me after almost four years. between the back pain and withdrawls of being shut down cold turkey from four years or prescribed narcotics i don't forsee myself having a snowballs chance in hell of surviving. i have had to use marijuana to help keep my pain level down and to counter some side effects of the pain meds(diminished appetite,head spins,and nausea). i have been treated like an addict from the day i crawlwed into the emergency room. i was treated like an addict before the 2004 surgery and treated like an addict for months before the 2005 surgery. did i mention i have been treated like an addict since they fused me in 2005 and every day since? i have scar tissue build up, a tear at s1, and nerve damage affecting my right leg. I'm sick of over paid medical "professionals" taking one look at me and judging me without even laying hands on me. i don't know what to do and i feel i've been backed into a corner that i can't get out of. |

We recently just moved here from Fl and can not find a doctor to continue our pain med refills. I have called everywhere and all these dr.'s do is injections!! We have both had those and they do not relieve us! So, now we are currently going broke going back to our dr. in FL all the time!! This is rediculus, what is up with only shots as an option? They are only temporary for some people and no help for others. This horrible!! Go back to FL or withdraw in pain!! My current doctor's daughter has a need for pain pills, that's why he came out retirement to treat her! Oh, he is an anestesiologist also, and says that injections can dangerous! Please help if you know of dr that can help us with refills. Please help those who have legitimate pain!!!! |
