stephan hampton | I have fought over 3 years and tried to find a phone with sprint that was accessable with them for the blind. every time i call no one knows any thing when i ask and there is hardly any information about a phone with sprint that is accessable with them on the net. Some times you can find a phone but it only works half way. Most of the time when you talk to the hier ups in sprint there excuse is that sense they have sprint voice command, there phone are accessable to the blind. This i feel has nothing to do with the issue of accessablity. It done not make the phone accessable at all and most of the time voice command don't understand what you say. I personally beleave that sell phones should be made accessable for the blind just as they are accessable for the sighted. The sighted has all the phone ability and we do not this is unfare to us.
Anonymous | I have asked Sprint about accessible cell phones and all they offered were the famililar voice dialing and it only works halfway and with your voice. If my boyfriend were to pick up my phone and want to dial someone on it, it wouldn't recognize his voice. So, that is not accessible in my opinion. I've had sprint since 2003 and couldn't no matter how convincing I was, talk another blind person into using their phones because of their failure to help with the accessbility problem. My boyfriend and I called them and they called us, "special p people". No matter what you label us as, we still need our internet, email, text messaging and should have it as sighted counter a parts have it. I have campaaigned for the blind in Virginia and have discovered that blindness is the most severe handicap, yet we are not treated as such. The deaf and hard or of hearing and the cerebropalsic and other physical disabilities seems to have what they need, yet the blind get passed over. It has always been that way, even in residential schools.

raychelle Thomas | sprint gave me an htc 6800 that has mobile windows on it because one of their customer service specialists messed up in writing and said they would but then it appearred on my bill i am still fighting and for everyone's information they have a hearing impaired department but do not have a visually impaired department and they told me they would open one and have no intentions on doing it.

Robert R. Bliss | My family has been with Sprint for over two years. I have not purchased a phone because the service is not user friendly. Because I have memorized the key pad, I can make a call and take one. I am unable to use any other features. If Sprint doesn't correct this situation, we well change service to Verizon. The ball is in Sprint's court! Bob Bliss

Devon | the phones that sprint claims are accessible are hard to find and expensive. could somebody make a phone with a magnified screeen, looks great, has modern features, and can be purchased by the average persoon?
Judy | I am a Sprint PCS customer and in general, I have found that customer service reps are not very much informed of the accessibility solutions for persons who are blind o visually impaired. I hope this petition is a first step to raising awareness of this issue and making it easier for sprint customers who are blind or visually impaired to have their cellular needs met.
Anonymous | In the almost seven years I've been with Sprint, I have also been quite satisfied over all with their services, and would prefer if possible not to have to change to another provider in order to have a more accessible phone. The one I have now, the Sphm300 from Samsung, is usable enough to get around the menus and read my call history, contacts and so forth, but since it wasn't originally designed for the blind it doesn't have other desired features, such as the time of incoming or missed calls, or even many of the other useful tools such as the alarm, scheduler, task list, text messaging, IM and email among others. So for me, this is a good phone as long as I want to know who's calling and be able to get around the menus - I am certainly glad to at least have that capability - but otherwise it's of very little use. I would really like to see Sprint taking more initiative in designing phones with the idea of providing more accesibility to their customers among the blind community. If there's anything that really needs improvement, it's that. Otherwise I am very happy with the services I have received.
Alena ROberts | I feel that Sprint should help the blind purchase the phones that are most accessible. Many blind people do not have a lot of expendible income and all of our products cost a lot of money. We just want a phone that works best for us. Please respect your disabled customers and provide financial assistance.

Lorrie Neal | I have only been with sprint for about 3 and a half months. During those three month, I discovered that sprint is the only cell phone company that doesn't have anything accessible for the blind. Why is it that we always have to be the poor and forgotten ones? It just isn't fair. We shouldn't have to pay a fortune just to get something that is going to benefit us. There are way more sighted people in this world than blind people, and they don't have to pay a fortune to get a cell phone. I just don't think that it is fair for blind and/or visually impaired people to have to keep depending on sighted people to read things for us. We have a right to be as independent just as much as "the sighted world" as we call it. I would greatly appreciate it if you sprint service providers would take our requests into serious consideration I really don't want to have to leave sprint, but if you people don't get the ball rolling, I will switch to someone who will, along with the other blind people that you will lose. Thank you for taking out your time to read what I had to say.

sue | my son is mentally handicapped and being 23 I decided to get him a cell phone easy I thought. After wards I was told to have disabled voice command added, first off it is costing $5 a month and secondly noone at sprint knew about it,finally threatening to return the phone and cancel service, someone recoded the phone ,This petition is a great idea!
Sue | I am furious at sprint. I have a mentally challanged/disabled son age 23. I decided that since I am a sprint customer that I would share my plan so that he can have a phone like others in his program. A week ago I received a call from Sprint, ordered the phone,he was estatic! Well for 6 days I went through pure h....trying to add disabled voice command added to his line,it seams that the premier system had it, but they upgraded all phones to the ensamble system, they neglected to add the disable voice command.I returned the phone to the main store ,called Sprint again as I was told to do and now am stuck paying charges like pro rated insurance pro rated voice command and activation, how much can we take of this. Its just plain stupidity!
Leroy Abraham | I am a sprint costomer who also feels the same way. Can't aford to pay over $800.00 for a phone I can use, wen I can get the phone from at&t for alot less.

Diana Dawne PH D | I have been a loyal customer for five years. I am aware that Sprint does offer a couple phones that do talk, but they are nothing compared to what Mobile Speak offers. With Mobile Speak, it is possible for the blind customer to do everything his sighted counterpart would do with his phone. Other carriers offer service for disability and AT&T offers mobile speak for around 89 dollars. It regularly sells for $299 which puts it out of reach of many people. Sprint is a wonderful carrier and I have five phones myself, plus I have encouraged many others to consider it but many blind people are just not able to come up with that high fee for a mobile Speak license. I hope that in the very near future we will find Sprint offering the same or better services for the blind as they offer other excellent services and products.
Raymond Bishop | I am a totally Blind individual, who after being with Nextel for five plus years, chose Sprint for it's stability and great service. I have a Motorola Q9C and love it! My 30 day free trial of Mobile Speak is about to end and due to the fact I have a very limited income, I won't have speech much longer. If I had chosen AT&T for a carrier, I might have been able to get help with $89.00 verses $300.00 I am sad I am going to loose such a great functional tool until I have the money to get the speech licensed. Screenless phones are great however I live in a sighted world and I am married to a sighted individual. if she needs to use my phone, she is unable to use a screenless phone.

Malaina | I have been with sprint since March of 2001. While I do enjoy the fact my phone works pretty much where i need it to I wish is was more accessable. I am one of the many customers of sprint who is totally blind. I am currently using the lg muziq phone which is kind of accessable, sprint needs to do something to make it easier for those with a visual impairment get the phones others are able to get through other carriers. I have several fridns that are use sprint or nextel and our biggest problem is the phones are not accessable! It is one thing to have the phone not speak what is on the screen but even the buttons on these newer phones is difficult to tell where one starts and the other ends. If we can't feel the buttons how are we to use the phones. I just want to see a change with sprint where they help people who are blind get the phones they can easally use. I also know a lot of people who went to verizon and left sprint because they had phones that could read caller id and such and sprint di not. Sprint is losing many people though not just the Visually Impaired population.
Kenneth Rodgers | I've been a Sprint customer for a long time and will soon purchase a new cell phone. I will switch companies if I have to in order to get a reasonable cost accessible cell phone.

Brad Harris | I plan to switch from AT&T to Sprint as soon as I can find a good accessible solution. Sprint currently offers unrivaled data features for around twenty dollars less than Verizon, making them a compelling choice. However, it seems that if I want an accessible solution, I must compromise in areas where my sighted peers are not forced to do.
| 188 | Austin Grace | Hello. I am a customer of ATNT ahd have just recently bought the motorola q9h witch is a global phone. i have also bought mobile speak from atnt for 89 dollars. i applaud atnt for offering this. so why does sprint/nextel not do the same? they loose a lot of customers due to this. I aggree with this petition.

| 189 | Patrick Turnage | Sprint makes no effort to make their products and services accessible to poeple who are blind. You should fax a copy of your complaint and the recommendation for sprint to create a center for people with disabilities to handle issues. Also to explore providing Mobile Speak at a discounted rate like AT&T does. Fax to 703-433-4352
. This goes directly to Sprint's CEO. |
Michael Peter Hansen | I am a 16-year-old Sprint Nextel customer. I currently use a Motorola I355 which has limited speech functions. I believe that it is vitally important for Sprint Nextel to make the same features (text messaging, etc) available to the blind community that they have available to sighted users.

Anonymous | Personally I love Sprint's service but I am tired of not having a phone that I can use like my friends and family do. I am twenty years old on my own in college and I can't even use my own cell phone except to make and recieve phone calls. I don't even know who is calling me when the phone ringns because my LG phone broke. Now I am using an old one because the phones that I need are not afordable. I hope that Sprint gets on the ball soon or I will take my business else where and many of my blind friends feel the same way.
