I am thoroughly against the changes proposed in the Costello Report. This is because, one size does not fit all, especially in Northern Ireland. Pupils do not want to have to move school after every lesson just because they want to study, for example, Spanish. Everybody will be mixed in together, thus ending in falling grades. This system has already failed on the mainland, so why bring it here? Despite the Troubles and the fact NI kept its grammar schools, we still outperform the mainland by a long way. If things do go the way as planned, grammars will be forced to go private, and children will not be able to go to their (or parents) school of choice, as they will be forced to go to the school nearest to their house. ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL!!! |
