Name: Noemi Yoko Molitor on Nov 20, 2006Comments: Stop racial profiling, state surveillance and police brutality. Train police officers to realize racism not to act on it. UCLA has to officially condemn the actions of the police officers and to address its complicity in islamophobia, racial profiling and targeting students.Flag

Name: Kate Bronfenbrenner on Nov 20, 2006Comments: Acting Chancellor Abrams: I have spent the last several days watching as my students from diverse backgrounds and political spectrums all recoiled in shock and fear from what they saw in the video and read in the news about the tasering a UCLA student. All of them were unanimous in their response. They are truly frightened that if it could happen at UCLA it could happen anywhere, if it could happen to one student it could happen to any of them and that there are no circumstances which can justify such behavior by university police. It is quite something that actions as far away as UCLA is from Ithaca have created so much fear and consternation. But the incident has also opened many students eyes to the need for a frank discussion on how dangerous these kinds of weapons can become when placed in the hands of even the best intentioned police and why it is so imperitive that UCLA immediately launch an investigation into exactly what happened that night and issue a cease and desist order for any further use of tasers by any of its public safety officers.Flag
