Today, the US Constitution is under assault from both sides of the political spectrum. Our legislators rarely read the legislation they are voting on, and in some cases, they are voting for legislation that they admit they believe all, or part of, is unconstitutional. We propose a constitutional amendment that will hold our elected representatives to their oaths. The amendment shall read as follows: Any legislator that votes for a bill that is later ruled unconstitutional by the courts: 1. Will be IMMEDIATELY removed from office upon the issuance of an 'unconstitutional' verdict by the Supreme Court, or the highest court that hears the case where no further appeal is filed. 2. Shall NOT be eligible to hold an elected or appointed position at any level of government (Federal, State, or Local) for the remainder of their lives. 3. Shall NOT be allowed to lobby any member of any level of government for any reason for the remainder of their lives. 4. Any legislator removed under this amendment who violates any of the above conditions shall be guilty of a Class I Felony, punishable by a minimum $25,000 fine and 10 years in prison. ... The time has come for We The People to hold our elected representatives to their oath to "protect, preserve and defend the Consitution of the United States". It is our liberty that is at stake, and we refuse to surrender our birthright to legislators that won't even take the time to read a piece of legislation they are voting on, or worse, vote for something they feel might be unconstitutional. They will not stop as long as they can violate the constitution with impunity.
