Congressional members (either the House or Senate) should be not be able to set their own pay; the automatic annual pay raise they normally receive should be nullified (although they voluntarily went without a raise in 2009 and 2010). In the year 2000, congressional pay was 141,300.00; it is presently 174,000 plus expense allowances and franking privileges. That pay should be reduced to the 1991 rate of 125,100 and frozen there. Congressional members (either the House or Senate) should be not be able to receive free medical care at military hospitals unless they are qualifying military veterans. Currently they can. Currently, lawmakers can retire as early as 50 with a full pension depending on how long they served. This should be changed to 65, the same age that Americans using social security receive full benefits.
