1204 Tim HuntStop the madness and set the record straight, once and for all. If SHS is THAT bad, why are cigarettes still legal and why is the government making so much money of the taxing of them? This issue needs IMMEDIATE addressing in the manner called for in this petition.

1210 beverly adkinsWhat I find amazing and infuriating, is that Ohio has, more or less, outlawed cigarette smoking. You are not allowed to smoke in a restaurant, a bar, a vfw, basically nowhere in public. So far we are still allowed to smoke in our cars and homes. Even some of our hospitals are saying you can't even smoke in your on car in their parking lots. Ohio says the majority of Ohio voted for this but I don't consider 52 percent for and 48 percent against the smoking ban to be much of a majority especially when there were 2 smoking issues on the ballot..mighty confusing to most. Now, adding insult to injury, our government wants to further take away our rights and money by jacking up taxes and excise fees on a pack of cigarettes and then cracking down on people that are trying to save a dime of their hard earned money for other things like gasoline, utilities and food! Mind you most of these people are a far cry from wealthy, in fact most are probably near poverty level. The government wants to take our money for cigarette taxes after they have taken away our rights and use the money on programs that would benefit everybody, including the non smokers that have caused the ban to start with. I am definitely outraged at our elected officials for letting this happen and for letting the smoking citizens be treated like second class citizens! Not only taking away their rights, but taking their money as well! I don't think the government will be happy till everyone that is not in the upper 1% of wealthy, are at poverty level!

1213 Rick HaubeilI am a nonsmoker who votes. I am also very open about my views and not afraid to share them with other people. We used to have two party representation in America, however the right wing has now laid down with the left and we have no recourse anymore. This is not just about smoking ... it is about government oppression in its genesis. Count me in for the new revolution!

1221 AnonymousJust like our President and Congress, another money making scam at the public's expense. JNJ and this Wood bunch could better serve America by spending their money to impeach Bush( they attempted to impeach Clinton for much less) and bring our troops home. If I am like most Americans, I've had it with Big Brother taking away my Constitutional Rights. I hope that America votes all of them out of office this Nov. They brought it on themselves with crap like this Ohio smoking ban and the corruption behind it. I's sure it's typical of all our states where smoking bans have been lobbied in by Big Money from the likes of this crooked Woods bunch and companies like JNJ.

1225 Dawn Nicol GrigsbyI believe that there are a few people in this country who want to take the rights of the many. If the smoking ban holds, people need to take a look at what's next. If people can tell us that we can't smoke, but our cigarette taxes can be used to pay for a lot of the places that they enjoy (i.e. ball parks) what will they tell us we can't do next. Eat certain foods (the trans-fat debate) or drink alcoholic beverages? The last time I looked around I still lived in America where people were free to make thier own choices about how they live within the law. We have allowed a not so silent minority to tell us that we can't allow our kids to pray before a big test or a big game, we have watched as they try to remove all signs of the faith in which this country was founded on. I, for one, do not want to sit by and allow these people to decide when and where I can enjoy a cigarette, drink a beer, or eat a cheeseburger.

1235 James K. Jones Jr.The law passed was confused with another issue on the ballot. It is unfair to the small business owners and their patrons. The widespread reach of these "laws" is not fair to Americans.

1239 MaryCurrently in Ohio there is a Senate Bill 346 to be voted on in Sept. 2008 to clarify the ban passed in Dec. 2006. It states that all privately owned family business, fraternal clubs & patios will be exempt from the smoking ban. Please contact your district senator to tell them you support this bill. This bill currently has 12 senators signed on and we only need 5 more to pass. Please call your senators today to help fight this ban for the sake of all the small business owners in this state.

1243 Brent WilliamsI believe this should be a decision left to the business owner. It is absurd to ban smoking in a bar. It is saying you can go in and destroy your liver and possibly kill someone on the way home. That's fine. However, you can't have a cigarette.

1247 Lou Ella ThorbjornssonI think the business owner has the BRAINES to know what his customers want and what will keep them comming back so the state of Ohio can collect more sales tax and the bar owner can employ bar staff.

1250 AnonymousSmoking bans are based on total lies, opinion polls and carefully cherry-picked "data" and then fed to the media which profits from drug advertising - and in order to be kind to the sponsors - reports without question whatever they are told to report - a form of repetitive propaganda - but all based on a lie. The anti-smoking agenda and resulting bans are in fact the Fraud of the Century - which would be revealed in an honest and trutful investigation - calling a lie, a lie - as so much of the bans are based on just that - deceptions and propaganda. The resulting money flowing directly into pharmaceuticals from these bans they pay and lobby for also result in that much less tax revenue for the governments - as well as business closures happening worldwide where-ever these are inflicted - beside the loss of constitutional rights and freedom of choice all private citizens and property owners should have.
