voting age. Our extended family are smokers and
non-smokers. We will not support any Congress-
person who forgets that the American voter is
made up of smokers as well as non-smokers.
Political intolerance needs to end. It started with
cigarette bans on airplanes in the 70s and
escalated from there (I remember as I had to
fly home from Europe) - then it became the amount
of fat we consume. We've jumped from smoking
lawsuits to fast food lawsuits. Unfortunately it
doesn't end there. Government's job is to serve
the people - not dictate to private business. When
government does that the business is no longer
privately owned, it is government run. That's not
the American government I grew up knowing. It
does, however, closely resemble another type of
government I studied. |

As far as the petition, I say "Three Cheers!" for the citizens (i.e., taxpayers) who are already weary of the "Nanny State" mentality of the greatest country in the world. Since some of the Founding Fathers (Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock, to name a few) are not worthy to be remembered with a National Holiday, this petition is timely to say the least. |
