The Trent Swim club and Trent University swim team have produced some of the best athletes in swimming over the past few decades. However, our facilities are making it very difficult to expand our club and continue to grow at the national level. On a different note, there are very few adequate aquatic facilities in the area and the closest 50m facility is over an hour away. It is our hope that the expansion to the athletics facility includes a new pool; however, the current agenda does not incorporate this infrastructure. Often people are deterred by pools and their operating costs; however, if managed correctly, and in the right environment, they add the the overall component of the entire athletics infrastructure and thrive. Moreover, Peterborough has a booming athletic population that competes in triathlons, kayaking, synchronized swimming, canoeing, diving... However, we do this in underfunded and out of date facilities. Please sign this petition to help us get the leverage to stimulate some action at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. Peterborough is in desperate need of a new facility that is state of the art not just another fitness center.

Karen Seymour, Canada5 years ago Comments: As a member of Kawartha Trent Synchro club, I feel that changes to the pool are necessary. If Trent U wants to be a "centre for sport" then we need a facility that will allow us to host meets (deep water for 25 m and spectator seating) or to host training camps and workshops (25 m or more deep water). The current pool does not allow this and as a result we are unable to raise club funds in this manner as well. A larger pool would allow us to recruit more swimmers and grow the club.
