This is a Petition from the Citizens of Broward County Florida to compel the Board of County Commissioners to have an "Independent and Outside Audit" performed on the Young At Arts Museum located in Davie Florida.

We believe this is action is necessary for the following reasons, including but not limited to:

1. The museum has been in default on their rent for several years and has no current plan to repay it.

2. At least one Board member, Executive Director/CEO Mindy Shrago has employed several members of her family to work at the Museum collecting pay checks while the rent has not been paid. This along with the fact that Museum Chairman of the Board David Di Pietro, Esquire is married to a sitting Broward County Judge, We believe the possibility of abuse and of fraud are very high, and the Commission cannot be trusted to do any investigation. .

Therefore we, the below signing Citizens of Broward County Florida, do herby compel the Board of County Commissioners to have an "Outside and Independent Audit" performed on the Young At Arts Museum located in Davie Florida,

Outside and Independent meaning a nationally recognized firm outside of Broward County Florida or a Law Enforcement agency in or out of Broward County Florida.

We further request the Board of County Commissioners to investigate whether any State Laws or County Charters have been violated by the hiring of the family members.

Signed,

UPDATE!

On October 17th the YAA filed a lawsuit against Broward County.

The very County that they owe all the back rent to.

I spent the entire morning digging through public records and honestly it is just getting more confusing the deeper I go into these museum board contracts. It keeps me up at night thinking about how much taxpayers are on the hook while certain people just keep hiring their own relatives and ignoring the rent.

I really never thought this would gain this much steam but look at us now pushing for the transparency we deserve. It feels like the tide is finally turning because so many of you are tired of the same old excuses regarding how these funds have been handled despite the rent being behind schedule for years.

Enough of this nepotism. Taxpayer money shouldnt be funding family payrolls while the bills go unpaid. FIX THIS.

Something stinks here. How do you not pay rent for years but keep hiring family? Need a real audit not some local joke investigation.
