Name: Sue Ritter on Nov 22, 2010Comments: I totally agree that we need to have a better transit system as we are a growing community which needs to have access to the city.. What we have is not adequate. I have had two older children who went to work and had to make arrangements to sleep at friends, family etc in order to fulfil work obligations as the transit system was not even an option. We need to have people on a panel who live in our area, who are dependant on transit and use this as a starting point. If a parent cannot afford to buy, maintain, insure and fuel a vehicle for a child who needs to work then the only other options are they cannot work or they have to leave home to live in town in order to work. I have had to have my daughter live in cole harbour with her grandmother in order to make her work schedule and her school schedule. this is unheard of in town. In the valley it is easier to get from middleton to kentville than it is from porters lake to town during the day. what is up with that.Flag

Name: Laurie Cook on Nov 22, 2010Comments: Musquodoboit Harbour has just got $30,000 from NS-TRIP / Prov to do a biz plan for short haul transit based out of Musq Harbour and going to Hd. Jeddore, Martinique (summer) and Porter's Lake. We got this money on the understanding there would be good connections with the PL metro transit so we could help people who need access to town for VARIOUS reason to be able to do so. We ask any changes to the PL route be considered in partnership with the communities affected first - incl MH.Flag

I grew up in Porters Lake and now as an adult can truly appreciate the neccesity and importance of a regular connection to our surrounding communities and city centers for work and pleasure. Name: Leslie Savoy on Nov 22, 2010Comments: They changed the schedule this summer so that it was less useful, rather than more.Include early moring, a midafternoon, and a late. There are people who use it for shopping, doctors appointments during the day, and work 9-5 in the city.We need a bus that services ALL the 207.Its 20 minutes from Cole Harbour, goes by the beach, and would service MANY side roads off the 207.Traffic is increasing with the same amount of amenities.Flag

I find it hard to believe that the money that is being spent on Metro Transit cannot generate something for us. I don't think it is asking too much to help students get to and from jobs in town or someone that is without transportation to have a way in and out of town.Flag

Name: Craig MacMaster on Nov 22, 2010Comments: The best way to send metro transit a message is by taking the bus! There are a lot of people on this petition saying that they would take the bus, but only IF ... (enter reason X here) Transit is being reduced because there isn't the ridership to support it. By the time I get to porters lake from halifax the bus is empty save 2 or 3 people and that's using the smallest bus in the fleet during a peak run. Yes, the bus is inconvenient BUT it will only get better IF and when the ridership increases. This means you. If you really want to support this petition, I think its time you get on the bus and start riding it. Yes it may mean some sacrifice but it's worth it, I promise... Why get on the bus? For our family personally, we save over $8400/year in expenses that are broken down roughly as follows: $336/month vehicle lease $165/month parking $22 Bridge/month $700/year Insurance/registration/licensing $600/year vehicle maintenance $??? Gas +- an arm and a leg Now, how much does a bus pass cost?... in essence believe it or not, it costs NOTHING... A bus pass is 100% Tax Deductible. Furthermore its not only free but when you think about it, the Provincial Government is actually paying you to take the Bus, a subsidy which is worth over $1000/ year. In the end, the real people we need to communicate to are the people in the community that won't take the bus for whatever reason. I'd be interested in going door to door to ask, plead, beg and "educate" people on the merits of taking the bus. Building the ridership first is the only way things will get better. Otherwise I don't support increasing non-peak runs that will undoubtedly run empty through our community as they do now. Its not sustainable economically nor environmentally. First Step... Increase ridership, thats the real issue. Metro Transit is already running empty buses through our community... we don't need any more of them! thanks... and yes I ride the bus every week... I'm the dude who sits in the back with his laptop working or reading. If you disagree with anything I have to say, I'd be happy to discuss it ... but only on the bus :)Flag

We need improved service, not cuts to present service. I know, let's pretend that the Eastern Shore is as much a part of HRM as, say, Bedford or Lower Sackville.Flag

I had an opportunity to use it again when my car was in the Garage and was appalled they had changed the times. With service after 10 a.m. and they are taking in streets that there is not need to go down. What a waste of Taxpayers money. I support this cause 100%Flag

Name: Heather Ballard on Nov 22, 2010Comments: The ridership at the end of the run has gone down since the changes were made to the times it ran. We used to see alot of seniors using the system to come this way and grab a couple of things or do the Porter's Lake run and do shopping and lunch then go home now with the 6 hours between busses in the afternoon it is counter productive. My daughter does use the bus regularly in our neihbour hood. Craig may not see these people using the bus for he is not riding it during the same times as these persons, nor are they going beyond Porter's Lake. I know of several graduates that were catching the bus to work in the afternoons that would have to wait 5hours before work to catch it now and the last connector from Portland terminal leaves 10 minutes prior to the buses that come from downtown dartmouth and Dartmouth Crossing. The children would use it more if they could get home from their part-time jobs. How many parents have to drive in and pick up at Portland terminal because of the ten minute difference? I know many children wouldn't have the choice but to take the bus if it was an option because parents would insist! Just a couple of our observations from the last stop!Flag

Name: Gina Dunn on Nov 22, 2010Comments: When Public Transit services are cut, it hurts the most needy people of our society. There are many people who cannot afford a vehicle and are literally trapped when cuts to services are made. They cannot work, get groceries, etc. We should be spending our tax dollars on creating an infrastructure that everyone can use not on adding another bridge, lanes and widening streets.Flag

I know for a fact that the parking in cole harbour at the portland street location will always be full at the 10 AM hour, this leaving me to travel to Penhorn. I know there are many people who come in from even farther away then porters lake. Let the eastern shore working families have a break on the commute! They've done it for long enough!Flag
