We have heard from reliable sources that an owner of a gun shop is negotiating with the owner of the Shirlington Heights Condominiums at 2249 South Shirlington Road to lease space for his business. We, the members of the Nauck Civic Association Executive Committee are very concerned about locating this business in our community. Although, we are attempting to solicit businesses to locate within our community, we are not convinced that this type of business fits the description of what the residents seek. For one, there can be no community benefits derived, as it is not one that will lead to employment opportunities, service delivery or quality of life improvements. We are appealing to all Nauck residents and surrounding civic associations to join us in signing a petition to the Arlington County Board, the owner of the Shirlington Heights Condominiums, Michael Griffin and the potential leasee that we prefer that this business not be located in Nauck.

There's this tradition at Drew when all our children go for a "Peace Walk" around the school at the end of school year. Do we really want them to pass by a "gun store" when they are walking for "peace"?

A gun shop is not needed, not welcome, and not in line with the priorities of our neighborhood. The residents of 22204 would prefer to see a business that can thrive and provide benefits to those of us who live here. Guns dont build communities- Guns tear them apart.

I don't live in Nauck but my child is a student at Drew. This seems like an idea that should be immediately rejected. Locating a gun shop this close to any school-let alone across from an Elementary school-is just foolish and irresponsible.

I would be very surprised if the condos owners were happy about living on top of gun shop. I 100% understand that guns are legal in VA, that doesn't mean that a gun shop doesn't bring down the quality of a neighborhood.

I agree with the Nauck Civic Association Executive Committee that no true community benefits will derive from locating a gun shop in the Shirlington area. I have been a resident of Fairlington since 1976. I am opposed to having a gun shop located in the Shirlington neighborhood.

Thank you, mebers of the Nauck Civic Association, for this critically important petition. As someone who worked with youth and families all her career no family-oriented neighborhood is the appropriate location for a gun store. Surely Mr griffin can find more a lucrative business to occupy the property.
