The petition

We believe that every college student deserves access to high quality health and wellness services at their school. Given the rising costs, more creative solutions must be found to improve the quality of care while reducing the hidden fees associated with college health care.

A tangible, concrete and achievable step in the right direction is for schools to begin accepting a family's current health insurance policy.

Students should not be required to pay for an additional, unnecessary health insurance policy offered by the school, or pay higher out-of-pocket costs for various tests and other services.

In short, families should not be double or triple-billed for college students' health care. By taking advantage of a student's current family insurance coverage, more funds will be available for critical wellness programs and health education.

The undersigned parents and students appeal to our colleges and universities to take a critical and urgent look at their health centers and wellness programs, and explore new approaches to improving the quality of care while keeping costs in check. College students deserve no less than access to a very high quality of care at an affordable cost.
